Job Summary We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Law Clerk / Accounts Receivable Clerk to join our dynamic team. The employee performs routine clerical, customer-service, records, payment-processing, and administrative-support work while learning Mayor's Court procedures, municipal records practices, accounts-receivable processes, legal terminology, and City operations. Work is performed under established procedures and with direction appropriate to the employee's training and demonstrated competency. (Class C is the entry and developmental classification in the Clerk of Courts / Administrative Assistant series.)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide reception and front-counter service, answer telephones, greet visitors, respond to routine questions, and route inquiries to the appropriate office or employee. Receive, date-stamp, organize, scan, file, and retrieve correspondence, citations, forms, court documents, payment records, and other City records. Assist with data entry and maintenance of court files, indexes, dockets, electronic records, and links or submissions to the Lorain Municipal Court or other authorized systems. Receive payments and assist with issuing receipts, posting transactions, preparing daily records, and organizing funds for reconciliation and deposit under established controls. Prepare routine letters, notices, permits, forms, labels, and reports using approved templates and instructions. Assist with solicitor permits, accounts-receivable records, record-retention activities, and responses to routine records requests. Operate computer applications, court or financial software, copiers, scanners, postage equipment, payment devices, and other office equipment. Provide clerical support to the Mayor, Law Department, Finance Department, and other City departments as assigned within the Class C skill level. Maintain confidentiality of court, legal, financial, personnel, and administrative information encountered in the course of work. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Clerical, customer-service, cash-handling, records, or office-support experience is preferred. Basic proficiency with word processing, email, data entry, and standard office equipment. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions, maintain accurate records, and perform basic arithmetic. Ability to communicate professionally with employees and members of the public. Valid Ohio driver's license and continued insurability under the City's vehicle insurance requirements when driving is assigned. Must be bondable.
