Budget Analyst

Job Description

Scope of Work Under basic supervision provides support to the Finance Administration Division. Assists with the budget development and approval process, and other duties of the division as assigned. Essential Job Duties Assists with the development and administration of City's operational budget Create charts, tables, and written narratives using budget software, Munis Financials, and Excel Compiles reports by researching and gathering data; reviewing financial information and budgets; creating and developing spreadsheets and databases; and analyzing information Conducts revenue analysis, prepares trends and projections, and updates revenue manual annually. Participate in the budget process; lend support to departments; compile department budget requests; design and prepare documents for budget and audit activities; compile and distribute departmental salary projections; and coordinate various budget meetings. Organize and maintain budget files, documents and materials in accordance to City policies; conduct transactions in the financial system potentially including budget data entry, budget transfers and amendments, salary and budget imports, purchase requisitions and contract payments. Supports the finance administration as needed with administrative duties. Ability to organize and provide technical assistance Respond to internal and public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner. Physical and Environmental Conditions Work is performed in a standard office environment.
Required Qualifications Education, Training and Experience Guidelines:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university; Finance or Economic emphasis preferred. One year of experience in governmental budget or accounting preferred.
Knowledge of:
Principles of municipal budget preparation and administration. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles for Public Sector financial management. Personal computers, Excel, and Word.
Skill in:
Analytical thinking. Understanding and describing the trends and changes reflected in charts and graphs. Communicating effectively; written and verbally Organizing workplace and developing strategies to work effectively and efficiently Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers. Using research and data gathering methodologies to perform budget and financial analysis.
