Position Title:
Director of Technical Accounting and External Reporting Location:
Largo, FL Position Summary:
The Director of Technical Accounting & External Reporting is responsible for leading the Company's technical accounting, SEC reporting, financial statement preparation, accounting policy development, and complex transaction support functions. This role serves as the primary subject matter expert for U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting matters and partners with executive leadership, external auditors, legal, tax, FP&A, and operational teams to ensure the Company's financial statements and disclosures are accurate, compliant, and decision-useful. The position reports to the VP of Accounting and works closely with the CFO, Controller, Investor Relations, and external auditors.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Accounting Lead research and documentation of complex accounting matters under
U.S. GAAP.
Prepare technical accounting memoranda supporting conclusions for significant or non-routine transactions.
Evaluate accounting implications associated with:
Business combinations and asset acquisitions Consolidations, deconsolidations, and VIEs Equity method investments Revenue recognition (ASC 606) Leases (ASC 842) Debt, equity, and financing transactions Impairments and fair value measurements -based compensation Monitor emerging accounting standards and assess implementation requirements. External Reporting & SEC Compliance Direct preparation and review of Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, Proxy Statements, and other SEC filings. Review and approve financial statements, footnotes, MD&A, and supporting schedules. Oversee XBRL tagging and SEC filing compliance. Manage quarterly disclosure committee and reporting processes. Benchmark disclosures against peer public companies and evolving SEC expectations. Financial Reporting Oversee preparation of consolidated financial statements and supporting disclosures. Review cash flow statements and complex accounting presentation matters. Ensure consistency across financial statements, footnotes, MD&A, earnings materials, and Board reporting. Internal Controls & Audit Support SOX compliance and financial reporting controls. Partner with Internal Audit and external auditors on technical accounting and reporting matters. Lead preparation of accounting position papers and audit support documentation. Assist in remediation of control deficiencies and process improvements. Leadership & Strategic Projects Manage and develop technical accounting and reporting team members. Lead accounting workstreams for acquisitions, dispositions, restructurings, and capital markets transactions. Partner with Finance Transformation, FP&A, Tax, Treasury, and Operational Finance teams on strategic initiatives. Drive continuous improvement in reporting processes, Workiva administration, and reporting technologies.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting required. CPA required. 10+ years of progressive accounting experience. Combination of Big 4 public accounting and public company experience strongly preferred.
Extensive knowledge of:
U.S. GAAP SEC
reporting requirements SOX compliance Financial statement preparation Experience preparing and reviewing SEC filings. Proven ability to research and document complex accounting matters. Strong written communication skills, including preparation of accounting memoranda and executive summaries. Experience managing and developing accounting professionals. Experience with Workiva and SAP preferred.
