Key Responsibilities of the Director of Accounting Lead day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, payroll accounting, fixed assets, and financial reporting Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes while improving close timelines and reporting accuracy Ensure financial reporting complies with U.S. GAAP and established accounting policies Maintain and strengthen internal controls and support compliance with applicable accounting and tax requirements Lead internal and external audit processes and coordinate supporting documentation Manage, mentor, and develop accounting professionals while establishing clear performance expectations Support budgeting, forecasting, financial analytics, and executive-level reporting Partner with Finance, HR, IT, and other departments to improve financial workflows and system integration Identify opportunities to automate manual accounting processes and improve operational efficiency Help evaluate and implement technology, automation, and AI-enabled tools within the accounting organization Drive continuous improvement initiatives across accounting policies, processes, systems, and reporting Qualifications for the Director of Accounting Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required 7–9 years of progressive accounting experience Combination of public accounting and non-profit/industry accounting experience strongly preferred 3–5 years of accounting leadership or supervisory experience Advanced knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal control frameworks Experience leading month-end and year-end close and financial reporting Experience supporting internal and external audits Strong understanding of payroll accounting, tax compliance, and financial analytics Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with large ERP environments Experience with accounting automation, process transformation, or AI-enabled finance tools is highly preferred CPA or MBA preferred Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship requirements Benefits & Growth Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and orthodontia coverage 403(b) retirement plan with substantial employer match Student loan repayment program Generous paid time off Discounted pet insurance Professional development and leadership opportunities Exposure to automation and modernization initiatives Stable organization with long-term career advancement potential This Director of Accounting opportunity is best suited for an accounting leader who has progressed through both public accounting and industry and is ready to own a broad corporate accounting function.
