The Senior Portfolio Advisor helps high-net-worth individuals and families achieve their financial goals through thoughtful, personalized investment advice. This role serves as a trusted advisor to clients with complex investment needs, managing sophisticated portfolios and delivering strategies tailored to their goals. The Senior Portfolio Advisor works closely with relationship managers, client service partners, and specialists across the business to bring the full breadth of Northern Trust's investment capabilities to each client relationship. This role drives in market growth by building strong relationships, supporting new business opportunities, and contributing expertise to deepen client engagement by bringing both strong investment acumen and a business-building mindset to a highly visible role.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead portfolio strategy and management for complex clients
  • Manage and oversee investment portfolios for complex clients, applying strong judgment and risk awareness to deliver consistent results. Provide thoughtful, goals-aligned investment advice
  • Translate market insights and portfolio strategy into clear, actionable guidance that supports informed client decisions. Adapt strategies as markets and client needs evolve
  • Stay current on markets, tools, and trends, and adjust portfolios to reflect changing conditions and client objectives. Build strong relationships through investment expertise
  • Establish credibility with clients and partners by delivering high-quality advice, strong performance, and consistent execution. Support business growth and client engagement
  • Contribute to new opportunities and help deepen relationships through your investment expertise and insights. Contribute to team expertise and development
  • Share insights, support colleagues, and help strengthen how the team delivers for clients.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
Ability to translate complex market and portfolio concepts into clear, client-facing advice.
Education:
A College or University degree is required/preferred.
Experience:
12+ year experience required in investment management experience, with a strong record of results. Experience advising high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients on complex investment needs based on deep knowledge of investment strategy, portfolio construction, and financial markets. Strong collaborative communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to clearly explain investment strategies and recommendations Work Authorization Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based visa sponsorship now or in the future.
