In Office North American Fire Protection is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to lead our accounting and financial reporting functions from our Palm Coast, Florida office. This is a hands-on management role for someone who understands the details of accounting but is also ready to lead a team, improve processes and provide Executive Leadership with reliable financial information. The Accounting Manager will directly manage our Accounts Payable Specialist and Projects & Accounts Receivable Specialist and will own the company's monthly close, general ledger, financial reporting, payroll accounting, cash flow forecasting, budgeting, reconciliations, tax coordination, WIP accounting and financial controls. Commercial construction, specialty contracting or project-based accounting experience is strongly preferred. Experience with WIP, job costing and percentage-of-completion accounting is especially valuable. What You'll Do Lead the Accounting department and directly manage AP and Project/AR staff Own the monthly close process and maintain the accuracy of the general ledger Prepare and review monthly financial statements including P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, payroll accounts and balance sheet accounts Prepare journal entries, accruals, prepaid expense schedules and fixed asset records Manage and review payroll accounting, payroll changes and payroll discrepancies Reconcile payroll to bank activity, payroll reports and QuickBooks Online Prepare and maintain company cash flow projections Lead the annual operating budget and prepare monthly Budget vs. Actual reporting Review AP aging, AR aging, collections and significant payment obligations Oversee construction accounting, job costing and project financial reporting Prepare, maintain or review Work in Progress reporting Monitor overbillings, underbillings, contract values, costs to date and project profitability Ensure labor, materials, subcontractor costs and other expenses are allocated to the correct projects Coordinate sales tax, use tax, 1099 and other accounting compliance requirements Serve as the primary internal accounting contact for our CPA, tax advisors, R&D consultants, WIP advisors, insurance auditors and other financial partners Coordinate workers' compensation, general liability and other insurance audits Develop and maintain accounting procedures, internal controls and segregation of duties Identify discrepancies and follow them through until fully resolved Provide Executive Leadership with accurate financial information, analysis and recommendations Payroll Responsibilities The Accounting Manager is responsible for the accounting oversight of payroll , including: Reviewing authorized payroll changes Investigating payroll discrepancies Reviewing compensation, deduction, reimbursement and employer contribution changes Reconciling payroll wages and liabilities to QuickBooks Online Reviewing payroll tax liabilities and differences Coordinating payroll corrections with our payroll provider Supporting quarterly and year-end payroll reconciliations Ensuring payroll adjustments are properly documented and reflected in the accounting records HR is responsible for authorizing and documenting employee-related changes. The Accounting Manager ensures those approved changes are correctly implemented and accounted for. This responsibility is explicitly included in the final internal JD. Construction Accounting Responsibilities Because we are a national design/build fire protection contractor, this role requires more than traditional bookkeeping.

WIP reporting Job costing Percentage-of-completion concepts Project billing reconciliation Overbillings and underbillings Project cost allocation Contract values and approved change orders Project profitability reporting Retainage and AR oversight Reconciliation of project records to the general ledger The Accounting Manager is specifically responsible for WIP schedules, job-cost oversight, project financial reporting and reconciliation of project accounting to the general ledger. What We're Looking For 6+ years of progressive accounting experience 2+ years of accounting management or supervisory experience preferred Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field strongly preferred Strong knowledge of GAAP and fundamental accounting principles Strong experience with monthly close and general ledger accounting Experience preparing and analyzing financial statements Strong account reconciliation experience Experience with budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management Experience with payroll accounting and payroll reconciliation Experience supervising AP and AR functions Strong QuickBooks Online skills Strong Microsoft Excel skills Experience coordinating tax, audit and year-end accounting activities Commercial construction, specialty contracting or project-based accounting experience strongly preferred Experience with WIP accounting and job costing strongly preferred Fire protection industry experience is a plus Strong analytical and problem-solving skills High level of accuracy and attention to detail Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage multiple recurring deadlines High degree of confidentiality and professional judgment Who Will Be Successful Here We are looking for someone who takes ownership. The right person does not accept unexplained differences or carry unresolved discrepancies from month to month. If payroll does not reconcile, WIP does not agree to the books, a balance sheet account looks wrong or a transaction does not make sense, you investigate until you understand and resolve it. You should be comfortable being both a manager and a working accountant . You will delegate transactional responsibilities appropriately, review the work of your team and personally handle the higher-level accounting, analysis and reconciliation work. You must be organized, proactive, analytical and comfortable holding yourself and others accountable for deadlines and accuracy. Why Join North American Fire Protection? $92,629.76 - $99,089.65 per year
