Position Summary Value Air is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the company's financial operations, accounting processes, and reporting. Reporting directly to ownership, this individual will manage day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, job costing, payroll oversight, budgeting, and cash flow management. The ideal candidate understands the financial operations of an HVAC or home services business and can provide accurate financial insights to support profitability, operational efficiency, and continued growth. Key Responsibilities Financial Management & Reporting Oversee daily accounting operations, month-end close, and preparation of financial statements. Prepare and analyze profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports. Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and expense tracking. Maintain accurate financial records and provide actionable financial insights to ownership. HVAC Operations & Job Costing Utilize Service Titan and QuickBooks Online for financial reporting, revenue tracking, and job costing. Analyze profitability across residential service, commercial, and installation departments. Track labor, materials, equipment, and overhead expenses to evaluate job margins. Partner with department leads to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve financial performance. Payroll, Budgeting & Compliance Oversee payroll processing, including technician commissions, spiffs, and sign-on bonus payouts. Develop annual budgets, financial forecasts, and cash flow projections. Coordinate with outside tax preparers on tax filings and year-end tax planning. Ensure accurate payroll tax reporting, financial records, and regulatory compliance. Establish and maintain appropriate financial controls and accounting procedures. Accounting Systems & Process Improvement Manage QuickBooks Online, including general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, and reporting. Maintain accurate data integration between Service Titan and QuickBooks Online. Develop financial dashboards and management reports to support ownership's decision-making. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 5-8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including controllership or financial management responsibilities CPA license preferred but not required HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or related field-service industry experience preferred Service Titan experience preferred, particularly financial reporting and job costing Proficiency in QuickBooks Online required Advanced Microsoft Excel skills Working knowledge of GAAP, financial controls, and business tax compliance Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, hands-on accounting professional who understands the financial demands of an HVAC or home services business — comfortable managing daily accounting activities while also providing financial analysis and recommendations directly to ownership.
