Job Summary We are seeking an experienced, tax-focused Public Accounting Manager to join our firm in a key client-service, technical, and team-leadership role. This position is ideal for a public accounting professional who enjoys the variety of small-firm practice, including tax compliance, accounting, payroll, bookkeeping review, client advisory, staff supervision, technology adoption, and firm process improvement. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of public accounting experience, strong tax technical skills, and the ability to review and manage work across individual, business, fiduciary, estate, gift, payroll, bookkeeping, and state tax compliance matters. CPA required; EA considered for exceptionally strong tax and accounting candidates. This is a hands-on role for someone who is organized, self-motivated, practical, and comfortable working directly with clients and staff. The right candidate will help maintain high-quality client service, improve internal processes, support staff development, and contribute to the long-term growth and direction of the firm. Responsibilities Manage tax-focused client engagements involving individuals, closely held businesses, estates, trusts, and related entities. Review tax compliance work prepared by staff, including individual, business, fiduciary, estate, gift, payroll, and state tax matters. Review client bookkeeping, general ledger activity, payroll records, payroll tax filings, and accounting work prepared by staff or clients. Review federal, state, and local tax and compliance filings, including Washington state reporting and tax compliance matters. Identify tax issues, planning opportunities, compliance risks, accounting cleanup needs, and additional client service opportunities. Communicate directly with clients regarding tax, accounting, payroll, bookkeeping, compliance, and advisory matters. Supervise, train, and support a small public accounting team. Review staff work and provide clear, practical feedback to improve accuracy, efficiency, and professional development. Assist with financial statement preparation and accounting-related client deliverables. Assist with compilations or review engagements, if applicable, based on experience and firm needs. Help improve firm workflows, documentation, quality control, technology use, and internal processes. Participate in evaluating and implementing technology improvements, including tax software, accounting platforms, workflow systems, document management tools, client portals, and responsible use of AI-enabled tools. Work directly with firm leadership on client service, staff development, process improvement, and long-term firm growth. Skills Minimum of three years of public accounting experience required. CPA required; EA considered for exceptionally strong tax and accounting candidates. Strong technical background in tax compliance for individuals, businesses, estates, trusts, and closely held entities. Experience reviewing bookkeeping, payroll, payroll tax filings, and accounting records used for tax compliance and planning. Strong understanding of how accounting records connect to tax compliance, tax planning, payroll, state reporting, and client advisory work. Experience with federal, state, and local tax compliance matters. Familiarity with Washington state tax and reporting issues preferred. Ability to manage multiple client engagements, deadlines, and priorities. Ability to supervise, train, and review the work of a small team. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Sound professional judgment, attention to detail, and ability to identify issues before they become larger problems. Comfortable operating in a modern public accounting technology environment, including professional tax software, accounting platforms, payroll systems, client portals, workflow tools, document management systems, e-signature tools, Microsoft 365, PDF/workpaper tools, cloud-based collaboration platforms, and AI-enabled tools. Ability to learn new systems quickly and help improve firm technology, workflows, and staff adoption. Experience with financial statement preparation, compilations, or review engagements preferred. Self-starter who can take ownership of client work, follow through on responsibilities, and work effectively in a small-firm environment. Interest in long-term professional growth, client relationship management, team leadership, process improvement, technology adoption, and helping develop additional client service opportunities as the firm continues to grow.
