Position Overview:

The Prior Authorization Specialist works in collaboration with clinical staff to ensure that the patient receives medication requiring prior authorization. Initiates prior authorization process upon notification from pharmacy or departmental staff to ensure patient care is not interrupted Researches payer and patient information to facilitate authorization Provides ongoing communication to the healthcare team and patient/family regarding the status of the prior authorization to ensure continuity of care Documents the status of the prior authorization throughout the request process Facilitates financial assistance as needed

Qualifications:

Education and Experience Experience with Insurance company preauthorization process preferred A general understanding of medical necessity and precertification policy requirements is strongly preferred. Understanding of prescription drug dosing strongly preferred. Drug prior authorization experience preferred. Pharmacy Technician experience preferred. Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding and knowledge of medical terminology strongly preferred.
