$23.00 - $25.00/hour, based on experience About York Educational Federal Credit Union York Educational Federal Credit Union is looking for an energetic, service-oriented Loan Officer to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced lending professional who enjoys working directly with members, evaluating loan applications, and helping people find lending solutions that meet their financial needs. About the Role The Loan Officer is responsible for providing exceptional service to current and prospective members while educating them about credit union lending products and services. This position interviews and evaluates loan applicants, analyzes credit and financial information, determines loan eligibility and appropriate terms, and approves or denies consumer loan applications within established lending authority. The Loan Officer will handle consumer loans ranging from routine applications to loans involving a higher level of complexity, value, or risk. This position also serves as a resource to other lending staff by providing guidance, sharing knowledge, and assisting with the training of new and less-experienced Consumer Loan Officers. What You'll Do Member Service & Lending Interview current and prospective members to understand their borrowing needs, financial circumstances, and goals. Educate members on available loan products and services and recommend lending solutions that best meet their needs. Explain loan terms, repayment options, collateral requirements, and other lending requirements clearly and professionally. Complete loan applications by phone, electronically, or in person. Request, gather, and review all information and documentation required to secure a loan. Respond to questions from members, applicants, creditors, and other parties involved in the lending process. Communicate loan decisions to applicants in a timely, professional, and courteous manner. Explain the reasons for loan denials and, when appropriate, provide recommendations or alternative options that may help members qualify for financing in the future. Loan Evaluation & Underwriting Gather and analyze information necessary to evaluate loan applications. Pull and review credit reports and verify outstanding debts. Identify and estimate monthly payments for debts not reflected on the credit report or application. Calculate debt-to-income ratios and other applicable financial ratios. Calculate and evaluate secured and unsecured debt obligations. Evaluate the creditworthiness and financial condition of applicants and co-makers. Determine appropriate collateral requirements, repayment terms, payment amounts, and other loan conditions. Handle loan applications involving a high level of complexity, value, or risk while following established lending guidelines. Approve or deny consumer loan applications within established lending authority. Loan Processing & Closing Verify the accuracy of approved loan amounts, interest rates, repayment terms, collateral information, and other loan conditions. Prepare, review, and complete loan documents and related documentation. Ensure required loan documentation is complete, accurate, and properly executed. Disburse approved loans in accordance with established procedures. Maintain complete and accurate loan files and documentation. Portfolio & Compliance Manage delinquent loan accounts and related files in accordance with established procedures. Take appropriate action to support timely resolution of delinquent accounts and minimize credit union losses. File TruStage disability and life insurance claims as required. Remain knowledgeable about applicable federal and state laws, regulations, lending policies, and procedures. Maintain accurate documentation to support regulatory and credit union requirements. Protect the confidentiality and security of member financial and personal information. Business Development Promote consumer lending products and other credit union products and services. Identify opportunities to cross-sell products and services based on individual member needs. Develop and maintain strong member relationships. Support credit union lending goals while maintaining responsible lending practices. Team Support Train new Consumer Loan Officers on lending procedures, systems, documentation requirements, products, and credit union policies. Assist less-experienced Consumer Loan Officers with lending questions, challenges, and complex applications. Share knowledge and experience with lending staff to promote consistency and sound lending practices. Lending Products & Rates Assist with developing and maintaining the credit union's lending interest-rate structure. Monitor market conditions and provide input regarding competitive lending rates. Assist with implementing new loan products, services, lending programs, and procedures. Maintain knowledge of current lending products and identify opportunities to improve lending services. What We're Looking For High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous consumer lending or financial institution experience preferred. Experience evaluating credit applications, analyzing financial information, and making lending decisions preferred. Previous experience with loan origination and/or loan processing systems preferred. Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong member-service and relationship-building skills. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions within established lending authority. Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple applications and competing priorities. Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive financial and personal information.
