JOB FUNCTION
Provide estimating and quoting support to the Sales Department by developing accurate project cost estimates and preparing final customer quotations. This role is responsible for reviewing project specifications, coordinating with internal teams to gather required information, managing quote requests from intake through completion, building detailed Excel-based pricing models, and maintaining accuracy and consistency throughout the entire quoting process.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Create detailed, accurate, and on-time cost estimates for assigned projects. Utilize Microsoft Excel cost models to calculate labor, material, and hardware costs. Review construction drawings, project specifications, and supporting documents to develop comprehensive labor and material quotes. Evaluate contract documents and project requirements to identify scope, project constraints, and expected deliverables. Perform research and analysis using both internal resources and external data sources, including frost line information, prevailing wage rates, historical pricing records, and comparable project quotes. Maintain budget accuracy by ensuring all estimates align with internal pricing standards and cost account structures. Present quote information and cost analysis to leadership, project management, and accounting teams to assist with planning and decision-making. Partner with Purchasing, Engineering, Construction, Sales, and Accounting teams to obtain project details, pricing updates, and design information. Develop practical and cost-effective solutions for projects that fall outside standard processes or established scopes. Recommend and implement improvements to estimating and quoting procedures to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and competitiveness. Complete additional duties and special projects as assigned.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, VLOOKUPs, IF statements, and data modeling used for cost estimating. Strong analytical abilities with proven accuracy in calculating percentages, proportions, discounts, and other pricing-related metrics. Exceptional attention to detail with a commitment to maintaining accuracy, even in fast-paced or deadline-driven environments. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly and effectively. Strong organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities and projects simultaneously. Effective collaboration and interpersonal skills, allowing for successful cross-functional teamwork with departments such as Sales, Engineering, and Purchasing. Self-starter who can work independently while also contributing positively within a team environment. Demonstrated critical thinking, sound judgment, and practical problem-solving abilities. Reliable attendance and consistent job performance. Previous exposure to sales processes and a general understanding of construction industry practices is preferred.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Associate degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred. Previous experience in construction estimating, construction-related industries, or other technical environments is highly preferred. Equivalent combinations of relevant work experience and education will be considered.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Frequent periods of sitting or standing at a workstation. Occasional movement required to access files, attend meetings, or handle materials. Must be able to lift and carry light objects (typically under 30 lbs.) as needed.
