Homestead Exemption Clerk

Job Description

Position Summary The Homestead Exemption Clerk is responsible for planning and organizing the work pertaining to parcel maintenance and homestead exemptions for the County Assessor's Office. This position is responsible for making work determinations made in accordance with established procedures and departmental policies. Essential Functions
  • Updates property record card and the data in the computer system.
  • Perform other duties as required to achieve assessment and departmental objectives.
  • Forward to the county mapping vendor and surveys and land changes sent to the Assessor's office from the Clerk's office or the Upper Big Blue NRD and other documents necessary for parcel maintenance.
  • Facilitate homestead exemption application reminder mailings.
  • Organize homestead exemption applications as they are filed in the office.
  • Data entry of homestead exemption applications in the computer system and values in the state database.
  • Receives the public and answers questions; responds to inquiries from citizens and property owners.
  • Composes, types correspondence and reports.
  • Assists with reappraisal prep work.
  • Some knowledge of the principles, methods, practices and techniques of real property assessment.
  • Some knowledge of the statutes and ordinances governing real property assessment.
  • Some knowledge of surveying, mapping, zoning and architecture as they apply to appraisals.
  • All other duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Graduation from a senior high school or equivalent plus some knowledge of appraising real property.
  • Ability to interpret and maintain written and computerized property records.
  • Ability to organize, analyze and interpret information.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, property owners, public officials and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with the general public under adverse circumstances in a respective manner.
  • Ability to accurately perform mathematical calculations.
