Property Inspector II
Job Description
Department Mission:
To support a higher quality of living in the City of Erie through education, assistance and enforcement of responsible property ownership
Job Purpose:
To inspect all properties within the City of Erie and assure compliance with codes and ordinances
SPECIFIC DUTIES
The duties of this job include, but are not limited to: Inspection of existing properties, residences, vacant lots, commercial buildings, hotels, rooming houses and all other assigned areas including inspections for zoning as required, specialized inspections
Customers:
Citizens, tenants, landowners, City officials, neighborhood watch groups, fire inspectors, zoning board
Outputs:
initial and follow-up field inspections, citations, warning letters, write tickets as permitted by law, progress reports, demolition recommendations, filing of reports, computer entries, education of the public, attendance at neighborhood watch group meetings as required or assigned (a minimum of one per year), property postings, record searches, exotic animal removal, appropriate inter-agency referrals
KQC's:
prioritize cases, accurate interpretation of codes and ordinances, timeliness of inspections and investigations
Improvement Measures:
review customer feedback, review of violation reports, inspection logs
Judicial Hearings Customers:
District justices, hearing officers, lawyers, citizens, City officials,
Appeals Board Outputs:
Court appearances, documentation of violations
KQC's:
successful hearing outcomes, satisfactory resolutions to violations
Improvement Measures:
case reviews, customer feedback
Qualifications:
Three to five years construction experience Valid PA driver's license- subject to traffic violation checks Knowledge of the ICC Property Maintenance Code Must pass ICC Property Maintenance Test within one year
•upgrade to I with certification Able to communicate effectively with the public Computer skills related to programs used within the department Must work well independently including self motivation and effective organizational skills Must participate in ongoing training
