Senior Planning Technician

Job Description

General Statement of Duties Performs technical paraprofessional planning duties involving considerable public contact, office research, field investigation, and reviewing of applications and plans; does related work as required. Essential Duties This high-profile position provides advanced technical and clerical support for the Code Administration Division, which provides staff support to the Board of Zoning Appeals among other tasks.
Key responsibilities include:
Prepare Board of Zoning Appeals agendas, minutes, reports, correspondence, and official case documents Prepare property owner notifications, action letters, and related materials for Board of Zoning Appeals cases Assist planning staff and the division manager with electronic case processing, file management, and retrieval of digital records Maintain accurate physical and digital files; scan and organize exhibits for digital review and storage Proofread documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with legal requirements Provide paraprofessional planning assistance to the public regarding zoning, subdivision, and development regulations Support planners by collecting and organizing data for planning reports Support the division manager with the organization and documentation of ordinance amendments, including updating electronic documents Provide backup support to other divisions and assist with receptionist duties as needed Utilize Microsoft Office, Filenet, Crystal Reports, Adobe, POSSE, ArcGIS, and other applications Perform related duties as assigned Additional Information The expected hiring range will be at the lower end of the listed pay scale. This position is part of an approved career development plan and may be filled at either a Planning Technician or Senior Planning Technician consistent with the successful candidate's experience and qualifications and the need of the department at the time of hire. Minimum requirements and salary range for both roles are detailed below:
Planning Technician:
Completion of two (2) years of college-level work in planning, engineering technology or a related field, and two (2) years of experience in topographical, structural or cartographic drafting; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. $51,007 - $93,830
Senior Planning Technician:
Completion of two (2) years of college-level work in planning, engineering technology or a related field, and four (4) years of experience in topographical, structural or cartographic drafting; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. $56,022 - $103,055
