A Tax Career With a Schedule That's Hard to Find If you enjoy working in tax but don't want the typical year round schedule that comes with it, Calvary Tax Service offers something pretty unique. We work hard during tax season and put in the hours needed to take care of our clients. After April 15, our workload drops significantly and our office typically operates only two days per week through the end of the year. You get the opportunity to build a long term career in tax while having significantly more time outside of work for most of the year. About Calvary Calvary Tax Service is a growing tax firm in Glendora, founded in 1976, with a small, close knit team. We have a family type atmosphere, enjoy joking around and having fun at work, but we're also very busy during tax season and take great care of our clients. This is an important position within our firm. You'll work closely with the owner throughout most aspects of the tax process and become someone we rely on to help keep client work organized, accurate and moving forward. We're looking for someone who wants a career and a place they can grow, not just another job for the next tax season. What You'll Do A big part of your role will be working alongside the owner and helping make sure client work is prepared, accurate and ready to move forward.
Your responsibilities will include:
Prepare and organize client files before tax appointments Enter client tax information into Lacerte and double check entries for accuracy and completeness Review incoming tax documents and identify information that may still be needed Communicate directly with clients to gather missing information and follow up on open items Help manage mail in and drop off tax returns from the time we receive the documents through completion and delivery to the client Manage the electronic sending and receiving of client documents, tax returns, forms and signatures through our client portal Print and organize documents needed for client files Help keep the owner on track with client follow ups, deadlines, priorities and items that need attention Review completed work and help catch missing or incorrect information before returns are finalized Prepare payroll tax returns using payroll software and handle routine payroll reporting and filings Prepare tax returns and meet with clients as your experience and responsibilities within the firm grow Help with other tax office projects as needed throughout the year You won't be expected to immediately handle a full schedule of tax appointments or independently prepare every type of return. As you learn our clients and the way we work, you'll have opportunities to take on more returns, client appointments and responsibility. What We're Looking For At least two recent tax seasons of hands on tax preparation experience with a professional tax firm Experience with Lacerte or similar professional tax preparation software Payroll experience, including experience preparing payroll tax returns and working with payroll software Familiarity with common individual and business tax forms Comfortable communicating and working directly with clients Strong computer skills and the ability to learn new software quickly Proficient with Excel, Outlook and general office technology Organized and detail oriented Able to multitask and keep track of multiple clients, deadlines and priorities Takes initiative, follows through and isn't afraid to speak up when something needs attention Schedule During tax season, you should expect to work a minimum of 48 hours per week, with additional hours required during our busiest periods and around major filing deadlines. After April 15, things change considerably. Our office typically returns to approximately two days per week for most of the remainder of the year. We think it's a great balance. We work hard when our clients need us most and enjoy a much lighter schedule when tax season is over. Compensation and Benefits Annual salary range: $60,000 to $75,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
Benefits include:
Annual discretionary bonus, awarded based on firm and individual performance Company matched 401k Paid time off Significantly reduced schedule outside of tax season after transitioning to salary Long term growth opportunities Small, supportive team environment For someone joining us during our off season, the position will initially be paid hourly during the training period before transitioning to the annual salaried position as we approach tax season. Grow With Calvary We're continuing to grow and want the right person to grow with us. As you become familiar with our clients and the way we work, you'll have opportunities to handle more tax work independently, take on your own client appointments, build relationships with clients and become an even bigger part of the firm. That also means opportunities for increased responsibility and compensation as your role develops. If you already have a foundation in tax preparation, enjoy working with clients and want to continue building a career without giving up most of your year to work, we'd like to hear from you.
