Job Description

Tax Manager Position Overview We are seeking a seasoned Tax Manager to lead tax compliance, planning and consulting for a diverse portfolio of clients including high-net-worth individuals (HNWI), individuals, partnerships, S corporations, C corporations and international entities. The Tax Manager will oversee preparation and review of federal and multi-state tax returns, manage complex tax issues, ensure compliance with current tax laws and provide strategic tax planning to minimize risk and optimize tax positions. Key Responsibilities Lead and mentor a team of tax professionals; assign work, review deliverables and provide coaching to develop team capability. Manage and execute all aspects of tax compliance for individual, partnership, S corporation and C corporation returns, including federal, state and local filings. Oversee tax planning and advisory services for HNWI and closely-held businesses, providing strategies for entity selection, income shifting, succession and estate tax considerations. Handle international tax matters including cross-border filing requirements, treaty analysis, foreign tax credits, transfer pricing considerations and expatriate/immigration-related tax issues. Coordinate multi-state tax planning and filings, nexus analysis and state apportionment to ensure accurate and optimal multi-state positions. Prepare, review and deliver complex tax research and technical memoranda on new legislation, IRS guidance and client-specific issues. Manage tax provision and financial reporting processes related to income taxes (ASC 740) in collaboration with accounting and audit teams. Serve as primary client contact for tax engagements, build relationships with HNWI and business owners, and communicate tax positions clearly to non-technical stakeholders. Coordinate with external auditors, legal advisors and other service providers during audits, due diligence and transaction support. Drive process improvements, implement best practices and leverage tax technology to increase team efficiency and quality. Ensure timely delivery of work and manage project budgets, staffing and workflow to meet client and firm deadlines. Qualifications Bachelors degree in Accounting, Taxation or related field; Masters degree or LL.M. in Taxation preferred. Active CPA license required (or equivalent); candidates on track for CPA with significant experience considered. Minimum 58 years of progressive tax experience, including public accounting or equivalent advisory experience; experience managing teams preferred. Demonstrated experience with tax compliance and planning for HNWI, individuals, partnerships, S corporations and C corporations. Hands-on experience with international tax issues and multi-state tax matters, including cross-border reporting and state nexus analysis. Strong technical knowledge of U.S. federal tax law, state and local tax rules and ASC 740 tax provisions. Proficiency with tax software and research tools (e.g., UltraTax, Lacerte, CCH Axcess/ProSystem fx, Bloomberg/Checkpoint or equivalent). Excellent communication, client service and relationship management skills; ability to explain complex tax concepts to non-specialists. Proven leadership and project management skills, with ability to prioritize deadlines in a fast-paced environment. High attention to detail, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to maintaining professional ethics and confidentiality.
