The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to lead day-to-day tax delivery for a Principal-led practice. This person will serve as the Principal's primary partner for technical review, complex preparation, staff support, and workflow management. This is a hands-on role for a tax professional who can exercise sound judgment, keep work moving, coach staff, and communicate issues before they become bottlenecks. This position does not include a sales requirement. What You Will Do Review individual, S corporation, partnership, and C corporation income tax returns prepared by staff. Prepare complex individual and business returns when manager-level involvement is appropriate. Confirm that returns and workpapers are accurate, complete, properly documented, and ready for final review or filing. Provide clear review notes and work with preparers to resolve open items efficiently. Identify tax issues and planning opportunities, develop practical recommendations, and escalate matters requiring the Principal's judgment. Research complex federal and state tax matters and communicate well-supported conclusions. Respond to federal and state tax notices, communicate with taxing authorities, and assist with examinations or other controversy matters. Meet regularly with the Principal to establish priorities and monitor deadlines, capacity, and outstanding work. Coordinate staff assignments, track production, and follow up promptly when work stalls. Serve as the first point of escalation for staff tax questions and provide timely coaching. Improve checklists, procedures, workflow documentation, and production processes. Communicate with clients to obtain information, resolve questions, explain tax matters, and set clear expectations. Review QuickBooks Online financial statements and general ledgers for tax-return readiness and guide staff through accounting cleanup and adjusting entries. What We Are Looking For Active CPA license OR Active EA License. At least 6 years of recent public accounting tax experience, including meaningful review responsibility. Strong experience with Forms 1040, 1120S, 1065, and 1120. Demonstrated ability to review staff-prepared returns and coach preparers through technical issues. Strong tax research, analytical, written communication, and problem-solving skills. Experience responding to tax notices and communicating with federal or state taxing authorities. Working knowledge of QuickBooks Online, financial statement review, and adjusting journal entries. Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines independently in a remote environment. Preferred Experience Supervising or coordinating the work of multiple tax preparers. Working with tax workflow and practice-management systems. Using ProConnect, CCH Axcess, Karbon, Ignition, QuickBooks Online, or comparable tools. Working in a small or midsize CPA firm and in a fully remote environment. Compensation and Benefits The salary is competitive. The actual offer will depend on the candidate's experience, technical depth, leadership capability, and other job-related factors.
