FUNCTION
Performs customer service transactions and makes sales referrals of bank services to support the effective operation of a branch bank.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Cultivates customer service by handling all paying and receiving teller functions and customer requests. Contributes to the development of new business by identifying sales opportunities and by taking the necessary steps to sell and cross-sell. Minimizes losses to the branch bank by maintaining control over cash in the teller window and balancing cash drawer daily. Contributes to the efficient operation of the branch bank by maintaining a minimum of absences and tardy days.
NATURE AND SCOPE
The teller is responsible for providing a high quality of service to customers of First Federal Bank through paying and receiving transactions. In this capacity, the incumbent is responsible for cashing and issuing checks; accepting deposits and payments on loans and bankcards; paying withdrawals from savings accounts and redeeming savings bonds. In addition, the teller supports the efficient operation of the branch by verifying and packaging currency and coin and by accurately balancing the teller window. The teller ensures that losses to the bank are minimized by keeping cash outages and cash differences low. Along with providing high quality service to customers, the teller identifies sales opportunities. Here, the incumbent is responsible for keeping informed of current bank products and services, recognizing opportunities to make sales referrals, and taking the necessary steps to refer the sale to the appropriate branch personnel. Providing accurate and responsive customer service while also making sales referrals for bank services is a major challenge to this position. The teller is responsible for maintaining the appropriate balance between processing customer transactions quickly and accurately while at the same time getting to know the customers, providing them with a high level of service, and making sales referrals for bank services. Maintaining this balance is the most difficult aspect of the job. In order to carry out the specific duties of the position, the teller operates various types of equipment. Included here are calculators, teller machines, currency counters, check writers, encoding machines, and computers. Depending on the branch, the teller should be familiar with the operation of this equipment. A final responsibility of the teller is to contribute to the efficient operation of the branch by maintaining an acceptable level of absences and by minimizing tardy days. This is important to ensure that the necessary level of customer service is available at all times.
