Job Description

Summary The Controller oversees all financial operations of the construction business, ensuring accurate reporting, strong internal controls, and disciplined financial management across projects and corporate functions. This role leads the accounting team, manages financial systems, and provides strategic insight to support operational decision‑making, profitability, and long‑term growth. Key Responsibilities Financial Leadership & Strategy Direct all accounting operations, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and financial reporting. Provide financial analysis and forecasting to support executive decision‑making and project planning. Develop and maintain financial policies, internal controls, and risk‑management practices. Construction‑Specific Accounting Oversee job costing , work‑in‑progress (WIP) schedules , percentage‑of‑completion revenue recognition , and project profitability analysis . Partner with project managers and estimators to ensure accurate budgets, cost tracking, and change‑order management. Monitor subcontractor compliance, lien releases, retention, and contract terms. Process payables, receivables, payroll and the related journal entry adjustments. Cash Flow & Treasury Management Manage cash flow planning, capital expenditures, and working capital needs. Oversee banking relationships, credit facilities, bonding requirements, and insurance audits. Compliance & Reporting Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, union requirements, certified payroll, and industry‑specific reporting. Coordinate tax filings and external financial reviews with CPA firm. Systems & Process Optimization Lead implementation and optimization of construction accounting software (e.g., Procore, Sage,). Improve financial workflows, reporting automation, and cross‑department collaboration. Team Leadership Collaborate closely with operations, estimating, procurement, and executive leadership. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; 7-10+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in construction or project‑based industries. Strong knowledge of WIP accounting, job‑costing, and construction financial management. Proficiency with construction ERP/accounting systems and advanced Excel capability. Proficiency with Sage is a big plus.
Pay:
$90,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
