This role owns the full finance function — accounting operations, FP&A, budgeting, forecasting, and cost accounting — while partnering closely with the CFO and operational leadership to drive margin performance, cash discipline, and data-driven decision-making across the organization. The ideal candidate brings a strong CPG or manufacturing finance background, hands-on experience managing a P&L and an accounting team, fluency in QuickBooks and ERP systems, exposure to private equity reporting standards, and the analytical rigor to lead S&OP, forecasting, budgeting, and Bill of Materials (BOM) / standard costing processes in a regulated, production-driven environment. Key Responsibilities1. Financial Leadership & P&L Management Own and manage the company's P&L, driving accountability for revenue, cost of goods sold, and operating expense performance across cultivation and manufacturing. Partner with the CFO to set financial strategy, capital allocation priorities, and margin improvement targets. Deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages to executive leadership, the board, and private equity/investor stakeholders. Ensure GAAP-compliant close processes, balance sheet integrity, and audit readiness. 2. Accounting Operations & Team Management Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, including AP, AR, payroll coordination, and general ledger functions. Oversee day-to-day accounting operations in QuickBooks (or equivalent), ensuring accurate, timely, and controlled financial recordkeeping. Own the month-end and year-end close calendar, including reconciliations, accruals, and journal entry review. Establish and maintain internal controls, segregation of duties, and standard operating procedures across the finance function. 3. FP&A, Budgeting & Forecasting Lead the annual budgeting process and rolling forecasts across all departments, cultivation batches, and manufacturing lines. Build and maintain financial models supporting revenue forecasting, headcount planning, and capital expenditure decisions. Deliver variance analysis comparing actuals to budget/forecast, identifying risks and opportunities for corrective action. Translate operational KPIs (yield, throughput, cost per unit) into financial forecasts in partnership with operations leadership. 4. S&OP & Cost Accounting Lead or actively participate in the Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process, aligning demand forecasts, production plans, and financial targets. Build and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and standard costing for cultivated and manufactured products, including edibles and other CPG-style SKUs. Analyze cost of production, including labor, materials, and overhead absorption, to identify margin improvement opportunities. Partner with cultivation and manufacturing leadership to track cost per pound, cost per unit, and production efficiency metrics. 5. Systems & ERP Ownership Own the finance team's use of QuickBooks and lead or support ERP implementation, integration, and optimization efforts. Ensure seed-to-sale (Metrc) and inventory systems reconcile accurately with financial and cost accounting records. Drive automation and process improvement across financial reporting, close processes, and data flows between systems. 6. Investor, Compliance & Cross-Functional Relations Serve as a key finance point of contact for private equity investors and board reporting requirements, including cap table and covenant reporting as applicable. Coordinate with the CFO on banking relationships, cash management, and compliance with state cannabis financial regulations. Partner cross-functionally with cultivation, manufacturing, sales, and HR leadership to align financial planning with operational realities. Support due diligence, audit, and regulatory reporting requests as needed.
QualificationsRequired:
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; CPA or MBA strongly preferred. 7+ years of progressive finance/accounting experience, including 3+ years in a leadership role managing a P&L and an accounting team. Proficiency in QuickBooks and experience implementing or operating within an ERP system. Direct experience with FP&A functions, including budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis. Working knowledge of S&OP processes and cost accounting, including BOM development and standard costing. Prior exposure to private equity ownership structures, investor reporting, or board-level financial reporting. Experience working within a manufacturing facility environment, with an understanding of production cost drivers.
Preferred:
Experience in a regulated, licensed industry (cannabis, food & beverage, pharmaceuticals, or alcohol). Familiarity with Metrc or other seed-to-sale tracking systems.
