Job Description

Whittaker Auto Group is Seeking an Experienced Group Controller Whittaker Auto Group is looking for an experienced automotive Group Controller to oversee the accounting and financial reporting functions for our growing multi-store dealership group. This is a key leadership position that works directly with ownership and senior leadership . We are looking for someone who knows dealership accounting inside and out, can produce accurate and timely financial statements, establish strong internal controls, and hold our accounting operations accountable across multiple locations. Automotive dealership accounting experience is preferred. What You'll Do Oversee accounting and financial reporting for multiple automotive dealerships. Manage and ensure accurate and timely monthly and year-end financial statements. Maintain dealership general ledgers and ensure schedules are reconciled and accurate. Oversee bank reconciliations, cash accounts, accounts payable and accounts receivable. Reconcile vehicle inventory and floorplan accounts and monitor flooring activity. Monitor contracts in transit (CIT), lender funding and outstanding receivables. Oversee deal accounting and ensure deals are posted accurately and timely. Reconcile F&I products, chargebacks, cancellations and related schedules. Oversee accounting related to new and used vehicle sales, service, parts and F&I. Review payroll and personnel-related accounting. Maintain strong cash-handling and internal-control procedures throughout the organization. Coordinate with banks, floorplan lenders, CPAs, insurance providers and other outside partners. Assist ownership and senior leadership with budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow management. Prepare consolidated management reporting across all dealerships. Identify unusual expenses, accounting discrepancies and financial trends before they become problems. Develop and maintain consistent accounting policies and procedures across the dealership group. Lead, train and hold accountable the accounting office staff. Work directly with dealership managers to resolve accounting and operational issues. Assist with annual tax preparation, audits and year-end reporting. What We're Looking For 5+ years of automotive dealership accounting experience preferred. Previous experience as an Automotive Controller, Group Controller, CFO or similar dealership accounting leadership position strongly preferred. Multi-store dealership experience preferred. Strong understanding of dealership financial statements and month-end closing procedures. Strong knowledge of vehicle inventory, floorplan accounting, CIT, F&I, service and parts accounting. Experience with dealership DMS systems such as Auto/Mate, Frazer, CDK, Reynolds & Reynolds or similar. Strong Excel/Google Sheets and financial reporting skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to manage deadlines and multiple dealership entities simultaneously. Strong leadership skills and the ability to hold a team accountable. High level of integrity and confidentiality. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business preferred. CPA is a plus but not required . What Success Looks Like The right Group Controller will give ownership and senior leadership confidence that the numbers are accurate, current and complete . You will know where the company stands financially, ensure every major account and schedule is reconciled, establish consistent accounting procedures across the organization, and provide leadership with clear financial information to make better business decisions.
