Controller |Purcellville, VA | Onsite | $150-180K+bonus+equity Reports to: Chief Financial Officer Are you a CPA with strong controllership experience in a private equity-backed, acquisitive environment ? If so, this Controller opportunity could be an exceptional next step. We are seeking a hands-on, high-impact Controller to lead accounting operations for a growing multi-location platform. This role is ideal for a leader who combines technical accounting strength with a builder mindset -someone who can maintain financial accuracy today while creating the systems, controls, and playbooks needed to support aggressive growth through acquisitions. What You'll Do Lead Accounting & Financial Reporting Own the monthly close process and ensure timely, accurate, GAAP-compliant financial statements Oversee balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, and monthly reporting packages for executive, board, and investor needs Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger and overall financial reporting environment Drive Controllership Excellence Design, implement, and strengthen internal controls across accounting workflows Lead the annual external audit and serve as the primary contact for auditors Maintain audit-ready documentation and ensure a disciplined, well-controlled close process Support a High-Growth, PE-Backed Platform Partner closely with the CFO to build a finance function that can scale rapidly Support lender reporting, cash visibility, covenant compliance activities, and near-term cash flow forecasting Create repeatable, efficient accounting processes that support operational growth and financial discipline Build for M&A Integration Play a key role in financial due diligence and post-acquisition integration Develop and execute a repeatable integration playbook for newly acquired businesses Lead migration of acquisitions onto a common ERP, chart of accounts, and control environment Oversee onboarding of financial processes tied to payroll, AP, AR, fixed assets, and working capital tracking Optimize Systems & Automation Serve as a key owner of the ERP environment and chart of accounts Help drive automation, workflow improvements, and scalable system integrations Build accounting infrastructure that makes each acquisition onboarding faster, cleaner, and more consistent Lead and Develop the Team Manage day-to-day accounting operations and mentor a growing accounting team Review team output, provide coaching, and build accountability across the function Help recruit and develop talent as the organization expands What We're Looking For Active CPA license required Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance 7+ years of progressive accounting experience , including leadership in a Controller or senior accounting management role Controllership experience in a private equity-backed company strongly preferred Proven success in a business growing aggressively through acquisitions Strong experience building processes, controls, and scalable workflows in a fast-paced environment Deep knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, audit leadership, and financial reporting Track record of integrating acquired businesses into a common ERP and accounting structure Experience with Sage Intacct or similar ERP systems preferred Prior experience in construction, restoration, or project-based services is highly desirable Strong leadership, analytical, organizational, and communication skills Ability to work onsite in Purcellville, VA Why This Role This is a standout opportunity to step into a highly visible leadership role where you can truly build , standardize , and scale .
