About the Role The Controller owns the accounting and financial reporting function for the dairy. You'll manage the monthly close, cash, lender reporting, and the day-to-day accounting cycle, while also overseeing general office functions. This is a broad, hands-on role well suited to an accountant who wants ownership of a full set of books in a real operating business — not a narrow slice of one. You do not need dairy or agriculture experience — the ownership group and the dairy's operating team will teach you the industry side. What we're looking for is accounting sharpness: strong GAAP fundamentals, attention to detail, and the drive to figure things out. If you're early in your career but strong technically, we want to hear from you — this seat comes with real mentorship and a clear runway to grow into it. Key Responsibilities Own the monthly GAAP close, with review and oversight from ownership partners Manage company cash: daily cash management (first line of defense), cash reconciliations, and cash position monitoring Prepare the monthly borrowing base and related lender reporting Manage accounts receivable, including working with the milk cooperative and reconciling milk checks, and recording and tracking calf sales Manage accounts payable, from receiving through payment Maintain inventory records and receiving processes for feed, supplies, and other inputs Maintain fixed asset schedules for both book and insurance purposes Administer payroll (with support from a third-party payroll provider), employee benefits, Washington L&I reporting, and new-hire onboarding Manage accounting and operational software, with support from a third-party provider Oversee all general office functions for the dairy Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field Strong command of GAAP — gained through public accounting, industry accounting, or a strong academic foundation; years of experience are flexible for the right candidate Genuine interest in learning the dairy industry and the operational side of the business — no agriculture background required Strong Excel skills and comfort learning new accounting/operational software Self-directed, organized, and comfortable wearing multiple hats in a small-office environment Experience running or supporting a monthly close is strongly preferred; ownership partners will provide oversight and mentorship as you ramp Experience with borrowing bases or other lender reporting is a plus CPA, CPA-track, or public accounting background is a plus, but not required Familiarity with Washington payroll and L&I requirements is a plus Why Join Us Ground-floor role in a newly formed company with an established, operating business behind it Direct working relationship with ownership — your work is seen and used Mentorship from experienced financial partners, with a clear runway to grow into full ownership of the seat Broad scope: accounting, finance, HR, and operations exposure in one seat Competitive pay: $75,000 - $100,000 per year, based on experience About Milk Stream Dairy Milk Stream Dairy is a newly formed company taking over an established, operating commercial dairy farm in the Pasco/Mabton, Washington area.
