Job Summary:

Recreation Therapist (CTRS) We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic Recreation Therapist (CTRS•Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist) specializing in music, art, dance, or recreation to enhance the well-being of our patients through engaging therapeutic activities. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for improving quality of life through creative interventions and have extensive experience working with diverse populations, including seniors, individuals with developmental disabilities, or those receiving hospice or psychiatric care. This role involves developing personalized treatment plans, leading group and individual therapy sessions, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to promote mental health, physical activity, and emotional resilience. Responsibilities Design and implement therapeutic recreation programs utilizing music therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, and other recreational activities tailored to individual patient needs. Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to determine appropriate interventions and establish measurable goals for recovery or wellness. Lead engaging group therapy sessions that foster social interaction, emotional expression, and behavioral management. Document patient progress accurately in medical records while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and facility policies. Collaborate with healthcare professionals such as nurses, social workers, psychologists, and case managers to coordinate holistic care plans. Manage activity supplies and equipment efficiently while maintaining safety standards within activity spaces. Provide crisis management when necessary, addressing behavioral health challenges with sensitivity and professionalism. Skills Proven expertise in recreational therapy techniques including music therapy, art therapy, dance/movement therapy, and behavioral health interventions. Experience working with diverse populations such as seniors in geriatrics or assisted living environments; children in special education or pediatric settings; individuals with autism or developmental disabilities; or those receiving hospice or dementia care. Knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, diagnostic evaluation processes, and patient assessment methods. Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality of patient information. Strong skills in data collection for program evaluation and quality improvement initiatives. Ability to adapt activities for patients with PTSD, Alzheimer's disease, or other complex conditions requiring specialized approaches. Excellent communication skills for individual counseling and group facilitation; crisis management; case management; and interdisciplinary collaboration. Requirements Bachelor's Degree is required in Recreation Therapy in one of the following areas: Music Therapy, Art Therapy, Dance Therapy, Recreation Therapy One (1) year experience providing Activity Therapy is required. Prefer minimum of two (2) years in a psychiatric setting with children, adolescents and adult population preferred Registered Art Therapist, Certified Music Therapist, or Certified Recreation Therapist Credential (CTRS) is required. Working knowledge of activity therapy programming. Effective oral and written communication skills. Therapeutic Boundaries, Search and Contraband, Risk Management, Infection Control, Common Psychiatric Diagnoses, Fire Safety. Behavioral Management. Effective Oral and Written Communication Skills Must be available to attend the full hospital and departmental orientations: Week 1:
