Part-time/Hourly Contract Position Summary:
Opelika Middle School is seeking a qualified and dedicated Athletic Trainer to join our athletics and health services team. The Athletic Trainer will be responsible for managing the care, prevention, evaluation, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for all student-athletes. This position works closely with the Athletic Director to support safe and effective performance development throughout the school year and off-season periods. The ideal candidate will bring experience in sports science, a strong understanding of sports nutrition, and a student-centered approach to injury prevention and wellness. This position follows guidelines established by the Alabama Board of Athletic Trainers and AHSAA regulations.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide treatment, evaluations, and rehabilitation for student-athletes.
  • Prepare training areas and ensure medical and emergency supplies are stocked and accessible.
  • Collaborate daily with the Athletic Director to coordinate modifications and monitoring for injured or recovering athletes.
  • Monitor athletes and training regimens.
  • Implement treatment and rehab sessions.
  • Educate students on topics including injury prevention, hydration, recovery protocols, and sports nutrition.
  • Communicate with coaches, parents, and healthcare professionals regarding athlete care and return-to-play status.
  • Oversee pre-practice preparation including taping, bracing, stretching, and preventive treatments.
  • Provide on-field coverage for practices, home games, and events, including immediate injury response and emergency care.
  • Coordinate post-activity recovery protocols and treatment for athletes.
  • Review and update injury logs and athlete medical records after each session.
  • Design and implement injury-specific rehabilitation programs based on clinical evaluation.
  • Maintain clear documentation of all evaluations, treatments, and communications in accordance with HIPAA and school policy.
  • Enforce and contribute to Opelika City School's Emergency Action Plans (EAP) and safety protocols.
  • Provide input and oversight regarding strength training modifications, return-to-play decisions, and injury trends.
  • Attend professional development and remain up to date with Alabama state athletic trainer licensure requirements. Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist ( CSCS ), Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified ( SCCC ), or High School Strength Coach Certified ( HSSCC) credentials
  • Experience incorporating sports science principles into athletic programming
  • Knowledge of sports nutrition education and athlete wellness practices
  • Familiarity with athlete monitoring systems Working Conditions
  • Evening and weekend availability required during in-season athletics
  • Outdoor and indoor work environments
  • Ability to lift medical equipment and assist with athlete mobility when needed
