Newport-Mesa Audiology Balance & Ear Institute is a comprehensive audiology private practice that provides both diagnostic evaluation as well as treatment for dizzy patients and individuals needing hearing services in Newport Beach, California. We have large team of audiologists who each work with state-of-the-art technology and possess a wide-range of clinical strengths. Since 2005, fourth-year externs have been an essential part of this busy Institute. We require that fourth year applicants can competently perform diagnostic hearing evaluations and think critically through a patient's case. Externs should possess a strong interest in vestibular audiology. We are additionally looking for applicants who have good counseling skills and thrive in a fast-paced work environment. Externs should be eager to learn and be able to work independently during down time to improve their skill set. Externs will be expected to work 40 hours per week and a stipend is offered for the position. Our institute is committed to the advancement of knowledge in the field of audiology. Yes Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:

• audiological evaluations (Including understanding of masking procedures)
• basic understanding of hearing aids and programming
• patient counseling for AEs and hearing loss
• understanding of anatomy and physiology of the ear including balance system Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:
• understanding of how to perform, analyze and interpret diagnostic balance evaluation (including Rotational chair, VNG, VEMPS, vHIT, bedside testing, CDP, and AE)
• Counsel patients on dizziness and test results
• perform patient driven vestibular rehabilitation
