Primary Children's Hospital is a not-for-profit, free-standing children's hospital providing quality healthcare for children with complex illnesses and injuries with more than 60 medical and surgical pediatric specialties. We have more than 800 pediatric providers, supported by a staff of more than 3,000 - all specializing in pediatrics. We also provide outpatient care at clinics in four states. Our hospital is the only Level I Pediatric Trauma center serving a five-state region. Originally certified in 2002, we have been a pediatric trauma center for 15 consecutive years. We have one of the busiest trauma programs in the country. Our SLC hospital has a 32-bed PICU, 16-bed CICU, 28-bed Neuro Trauma Unit, and 50-bed Level IV NICU. Our second hospital is located in Lehi. We have a dedicated pediatric and neonatal team that transports more than 1,500 patients each year. As the pediatric teaching hospital for the University of Utah School of Medicine, we help train 80 residents and 45 fellows. Additionally, clinicians published more than 50 research papers and participate in basic science, translational and clinical research. Externship Description The audiologists at Primary Children's Hospital (PCH) provide a wide range of diagnostic and habilitative services. These services include sedated and unsedated auditory brainstem response testing, behavioral evaluations, inpatient services, hearing aid services, cochlear implant services, assistive listening devices, and bone conduction hearing device services. We have 15 full time audiologists (with 1 PRN audiologist) and 3 audiology aides that work at five different locations: the main campus of Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City, the Lehi Miller Campus, Riverton Hospital, Layton Hospital, and Taylorsville outreach facilities. Our hospital is the only Level I Pediatric Trauma center serving a five-state region. Our patients range in age from newborn to early adulthood. We work closely with multiple specialties including but not limited to Hematology/Oncology, Infectious Disease, Cystic Fibrosis, Craniofacial, ENT, NICU, ICU, Developmental Pediatrics, and Speech. During your externship here, you will have the opportunity to rotate through all of our locations, work with a variety of supervisors, and gain experience in the full range of audiological services listed above.
