Edustaff in partnership with North Central Michigan College is seeking a qualified part-time Nursing Lab Simulation Technician. Candidates will be employed by Edustaff who oversees your pay. The worksite will be North Central Michigan College who will also provide supervision.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The simulation technician supports high-fidelity, low-fidelity, and virtual simulation activities for Nursing, health science, and public safety programs in accordance with institutional policies, accreditation standards, and program outcomes. The simulation technician prepares, operates, maintains, and troubleshoots simulation manikins, task trainers, audiovisual (A/V) systems, and related simulation equipment. The simulation technician works collaboratively with faculty and staff to provide realistic, safe, and learner-centered simulation and skills lab experiences for students.
DUTIES:
Controls the mannequin's physiology and responses Adjusts vital signs, breath sounds, heart rhythms, and other parameters to match the scenario and learner actions. Triggers appropriate changes (improvement or deterioration) based on interventions (or lack thereof) as directed by the script or the clinical instructor. Provides the patient's "voice" and affect Speaks clearly as the patient through the manikin microphone (or via a confederate role), using appropriate age, mood, pain level, confusion, etc. Responds dynamically to questions, procedures, and team communication to simulate realistic patient interactions. Executes the technical flow of the scenario Starts, pauses, and ends scenarios; runs pre-programmed events and cues. Troubleshoots technical issues on the fly so the educational flow is preserved. Implements faculty's educational design Translates learning objectives into technical behaviors of the mannequin (what the patient "does" when learners act). Coordinates closely with faculty on timing of cues, critical events, and when to allow or block certain actions. Supports psychological safety and fidelity Maintains a believable patient presentation while also respecting learner limits. Uses patient responses to reinforce learning objectives rather than to embarrass or trap them. Ensures a clean, organized, stocked, professional and safe learning environment. Maintains simulation, skills lab, and A/V equipment and related inventories, including: Performing routine maintenance and minor repairs on mannequins, task trainers, and A/V systems Monitoring supplies and consumables, and recommending resupply to the lab and simulation coordinator Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma (some health care experience preferred) Basic computer literacy; Comfortable with Windows/Mac, logging in, file management, basic software use. Ability to learn specialized simulation software and hardware Willingness and ability to be trained on mannequin control software, monitors, and A/V systems. Basic troubleshooting skills; Can follow step-by-step guides, identify simple problems (cables, power, software not responding), and escalate appropriately. Equipment handling; Able to safely move, set up, and store mannequin, task trainers, and lab equipment. Comfortable portraying pain, confusion, shortness of breath, etc., in a professional and consistent way that matches the scenario. Excellent timeliness and attendance. Adheres to simulation center rules, student privacy expectations, and college policies, including but not limited to maintaining confidentiality, professionalism and respect toward students, faculty and guests.
