POSITION OVERVIEW
The Biomedical Equipment Technician I is an entry-level position for individuals with foundational education in electronics or biomedical technology and limited hands-on experience.
Working under close supervision, the Biomedical Equipment Technician I performs basic preventive maintenance and corrective repairs while developing the skills necessary to support increasingly complex medical equipment. This role supports safe, reliable patient care and provides a structured pathway for progression to Biomedical Equipment Technician II. More experienced BMET II candidates may also be considered if BMET I candidates are unavailable. BMET II technicians are expected to independently troubleshoot, repair, and maintain a broad range of medical equipment while supporting critical patient care areas including ICU, OR, and Emergency Department environments.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform preventive maintenance inspections and corrective repairs on biomedical equipment Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions Maintain accurate service documentation and compliance records Support safe and reliable patient care through timely equipment service Collaborate with clinical staff and leadership regarding equipment issues Assist with installation, testing, and lifecycle support of medical devices Escalate complex repairs and technical issues as appropriate Maintain compliance with hospital and regulatory standards Continue technical education and training toward advanced certifications •

Preference for BMET I candidates; open to BMET II candidates if needed Opportunity for temp-to-perm conversion based on performance and mutual fit Military BMET/electronics backgrounds strongly encourage Additional shift/on-call differentials may apply if schedule requirements change
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION High school diploma or GED and one of the following: Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) certificate, OR Associate degree (two-year technical degree) in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics, or related field, OR Equivalent Department of Defense Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) military training Formal military training in advanced electronics maintenance and repair may be considered equivalent to stated education requirements Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electronics, or related field preferred
EXPERIENCE 0-2
years of biomedical equipment service experience or related electronics/electromechanical experience required Healthcare experience preferred Must obtain at least one designated healthcare system certification within 18 months in one or more of the following:
Anesthesia
Telemetry
Nurse Call
Ventilators
OR Tables
OR Integration
OR Booms
CRRT
Telemetry Monitors
Imaging
ESU•Q-Stress Treadmill•Heart Lung Machine•Balloon Pumps•Dialysis•Or related biomedical equipment specialties •
CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE
PREFERRED:
Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) or similar professional certification
TECHNICAL SKILLS
Preventive maintenance and corrective repair of biomedical equipment Electronics troubleshooting and diagnostics Equipment calibration and testing Medical device safety standards knowledge Ability to support a variety of clinical equipment platforms Strong documentation and communication skills Ability to troubleshoot electromechanical systems and medical devices
