Job Description
Join the American National Red Cross as a Clinical Services Nurse Specialist in our Healthcare & Medical Services department. You will provide clinical expertise for blood services and health programs, oversee quality and safety standards, support staff training, and ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines. Collaborating across teams, you'll help develop and implement protocols that advance patient care and public health. Responsibilities Provide clinical expertise and oversight for blood services and related healthcare programs to promote safe, high-quality care for donors and patients. Develop, implement, and update clinical protocols, policies, and procedures in alignment with evidence-based practice and regulatory standards. Support and deliver education, training, and competency assessments for clinical and field staff on key topics such as donor care, transfusion-related practices, and emergency response. Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and technical staff to review clinical outcomes, incidents, and trends, recommending and implementing quality improvement initiatives. Participate in incident reviews and root-cause analyses, providing clinical input and helping to develop corrective and preventive action plans. Contribute nursing expertise to disaster preparedness and response efforts, including health and safety planning for shelters and community operations. Ensure compliance with applicable clinical, regulatory, and accreditation requirements, and assist in preparing for inspections, audits, and surveys. Create and maintain clear clinical documentation, guidance materials, and educational content for staff and volunteers. Serve as a clinical resource and consultant to internal stakeholders, providing guidance on complex cases, practice questions, and operational decisions with clinical implications. Model and promote the humanitarian, mission-driven values of the American National Red Cross, fostering collaboration, cultural competence, and respect across diverse teams. Required Skills Clinical nursing expertise in acute care, blood services, emergency, or public health Strong knowledge of evidence-based nursing practice and clinical guidelines Experience with clinical protocol and policy development Quality improvement and performance measurement skills Competency in designing and delivering clinical education and training Knowledge of infection prevention and control principles Understanding of regulatory and accreditation requirements relevant to clinical and blood services (e.g., FDA, AABB, Joint Commission) Ability to perform and interpret incident reviews and root-cause analyses Disaster preparedness and response familiarity in a healthcare context Excellent written and verbal communication skills for diverse clinical and non-clinical audiences Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities Proficiency with electronic health records or clinical documentation systems Ability to collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams and with volunteers Time management and organizational skills for managing multiple projects
