Duties Verify dental insurance benefits and coverage details for new and existing patients using electronic health records (EHR) systems. Obtain prior authorization for dental procedures by communicating effectively with insurance providers and managing all necessary documentation. Process insurance claims accurately by applying CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes, ICD (International Classification of Diseases) codes, including ICD-9 and ICD-10, ensuring proper medical coding and billing practices. Follow up on unpaid or denied claims promptly, resolving discrepancies in accordance with managed care policies. Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations and clinical confidentiality policies when handling patient records and sensitive information. Collaborate with the medical office team to update patient records, verify insurance eligibility, and facilitate seamless electronic health records (EHR) management. Provide exceptional customer service by addressing patient inquiries related to insurance coverage, billing issues, and appointment scheduling with professionalism and clarity. Requirements Proven experience in medical office administration or dental office support, with a strong understanding of health insurance policies and managed care processes. Familiarity with medical terminology, medical records management, and electronic health records (EHR) systems. Knowledge of insurance verification procedures, prior authorization processes, and medical coding including CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding standards. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel for documentation and reporting purposes. Strong understanding of HIPAA compliance requirements and clinical confidentiality policies to protect patient privacy. Excellent customer service skills combined with effective communication abilities to assist patients confidently. Ability to navigate complex health insurance policies while maintaining accuracy in billing and coding tasks. Prior experience working with EMR/EHR platforms is highly desirable.
