Position:
Infusion Referral Coordination Specialist Pay Rate:
$25.80/hr
Duration:
13 weeks
Expected Shift:
40 hrs/week 8:00 AM-4:30 PM ET, Remote
IMPORTANT CALL OUTS
  • Infusion experience required
  • 5+ years of infusion experience strongly preferred
  • Strong infusion referral/intake experience required
  • WeInfuse and/or InfuseFlow experience preferred
  • High-volume Patient Access environment
  • Candidate must be comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, remote environment
  • Eastern Time Zone candidates preferred
  • Two-round Microsoft Teams interview process with the Director of Patient Access
  • Assignment is initially temporary; there may be an opportunity to convert based on future business needs
  • Candidates interested in future conversion should be comfortable with an anticipated FTE pay range of $26-$27/hour
IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE
The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of infusion experience with direct referral/intake experience and be able to contribute with minimal ramp-up. They should understand the infusion referral lifecycle, including reviewing referrals, identifying and obtaining missing documentation, benefits verification, prior authorization, and coordinating the referral toward treatment. The strongest candidate will demonstrate ownership, accountability, attention to detail, and proactive follow-through. They should be comfortable managing a high volume of referrals and competing priorities while maintaining accuracy and meeting turnaround expectations. The manager is particularly interested in candidates who are proactive, organized, collaborative, accountable, and patient-focused.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
Associate's degree required. Preferred fields of study include Healthcare Administration, Health Information Management, Health Sciences, Medical Assisting, Nursing, Allied Health, Public Health, or a related healthcare discipline.
EXPERIENCE
  • Infusion experience required
  • 5+ years of infusion experience strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of infusion referral and intake workflows
  • Experience managing referrals from receipt through completion
  • Experience obtaining and following up on missing referral documentation
  • Benefits verification and prior authorization experience
  • Experience reviewing payer requirements and medical policies
  • Experience communicating with patients, referring providers, and cross-functional healthcare teams
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a high-volume workload while maintaining accuracy and meeting turnaround expectations

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Review incoming referrals and supporting documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • Review incoming faxes and route documentation to the appropriate department.
  • Initiate workflows to support timely processing of referrals and orders.
  • Identify missing referral information and proactively coordinate follow-up to obtain required documentation.
  • Review payer medical policies and billing guidelines to identify documentation, authorization, step-therapy, and non-preferred drug requirements.
  • Monitor incomplete referrals and follow through until all required information is received.
  • Coordinate with Sales and Intake teams to advance completed referrals through the intake process.
  • Create and maintain patient records and accurately document referral-processing steps.
  • Obtain renewal/change orders and supporting office notes for active patients.
  • Enter and update orders for nursing review.
  • Conduct benefits verification and obtain prior authorizations for new and existing patients.
  • Coordinate with referring providers and internal teams regarding expiring orders and outstanding documentation.
  • Provide patients with information regarding benefit coverage and applicable copay assistance programs.
  • Review intake information with patients and obtain required acknowledgements.
  • Accurately document benefit and prior authorization information within the operating system.
  • Manage multiple referrals simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and meeting turnaround expectations.
  • Communicate proactively with patients, providers, Sales, Intake, and clinical teams to resolve barriers and support timely access to treatment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
