About the Role As a Vocational Certified Peer Support Specialist , you will use your lived experience to walk alongside individuals navigating mental health and/or substance use challenges. You will provide 1:1 direct peer support, helping peers identify, pursue, and sustain their vocational and personal goals in the community. In this role, you will: Provide Direct 1:1

Peer Support:

Build trusting, non-judgmental relationships rooted in mutual respect, self-advocacy, healthy professional boundaries, and personal empowerment.

Support Vocational Goals:

Walk alongside peers as they complete applications, build resumes, prepare for interviews, and connect with meaningful work opportunities.

Navigate Barriers:

Help peers develop coping strategies, reframe negative self-talk, build social confidence, and overcome obstacles as they arise.

Advocate & Collaborate:

Attend Recovery Team meetings to champion the peer support model and ensure self-determination remains at the center of care. Engage In the

Community:

Meet peers where they are (residential settings, workplaces, treatment centers, etc.) across Dane County.

Maintain Timely Documentation:

Keep accurate, confidential documentation including progress notes, service logs, and monthly reports in alignment with state/federal regulations.

What We're Looking For Essential Qualifications:

Certification:

Active Wisconsin Certified Peer Specialist certification (exam passed).

Lived Experience:

Personal experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery, with a strong commitment to person-centered recovery principles.

Tech Proficiency:

Comfortable navigating Google Workspace, electronic documentation/data systems, and routine digital communication (email/calendar/text).

Community Mobility:

Valid driver's license, access to a reliable vehicle for work travel, and active auto insurance.

Key Soft Skills:

Strong communication, creative problem-solving, healthy professional boundary-setting, and the ability to balance independent community work with team collaboration.

You should be enthusiastic and culturally competent working alongside people with diverse identities, including individuals with: Mental health and addiction challenges (including active substance use) Justice system involvement Multicultural and LGBTQIA2+ identities Varying levels of service engagement Work Environment & Schedule Field & Community Work (65%): Delivering direct support in Dane County workplaces, residential settings, and public spaces (transporting participants when appropriate). Clubhouse & Team Collaboration (35%): Based in our shared Downtown Madison Clubhouse at 2425 Atwood Ave for team meetings, consults & supervision, shared work and collaboration.

Flexible Schedule:
