Bilingual Older Adult Peer Specialist - Part Time Reports to:
Operations Manager Job Purpose:
Position Overview :
The Part-time Older Adult Peer Specialist provides support and assistance to individuals aged 55+ living in Charlestown and Chelsea, Massachusetts. This role supports the development of self-determination, self-advocacy skills and other strategies that promote mental health recovery and healthy aging. The person must be willing to share their own recovery story when appropriate to promote the well-being of older adults. This position will be required to work up to 20 hours weekly.
What you will be doing:
Meet one-to-one and facilitate groups remotely or in person Assist in forming wellness goals which will enhance other's health and wellbeing and provide ongoing support to help them reach those self-identified goals Collaborate with local community supports to identify individuals who would be interested in this type of support Facilitate the connection to resources (such as libraries, fitness centers, community events, religious organizations, substance use support groups like AA and NA, etc.) Complete documentation of services provided following established protocols Who we are looking for? A person aged 50 years or older, who is bilingual with lived experience with trauma, mental health issues, or substance use disorders Willingness to be trained as a Certified Older Adult Specialist At least two years of experience facilitating peer groups strongly preferred, or be willing to complete peer-group facilitation training within the first 12 months of employment Must be able to work independently and as part of a team Must have access to reliable transportation The Northeast Independent Living Program, Inc. is an equal opportunity employer and encourages persons with disabilities, women, persons of color, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and veterans to apply for this position.
