If additional grant funding is awarded, the position may be extended. The principal function of an employee in this classification is to perform responsible clerical, administrative and technical work involving community tasks including but not limited to: planning efforts, program development and event support. This position focuses on enhancing population health through chronic disease prevention and will play a key role in delivering outreach, education and essential resources directly to residents in the community. This position will also assist with public health efforts in reaccreditation, environmental health and public health nursing. This position is designed for an individual who is committed to improving health and wellness in the community. The work is performed under the direction and supervision of a division leader, assistant department director or department head, but some leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment. While the work does not involve supervision over the work of other employees, it is expected the employee will work cooperatively with other City staff. The principal duties of this class are performed in both indoor and outdoor settings. Supports immunization clinics, wellness fairs and community events; Provides health information regarding local health resources and services to the community; Maintains accurate records and assists with data entry and reporting; Conducts engagement outreach to underserved populations; Collects basic health data under supervision; Collaborates with public health staff; Assists in providing health resource information/event promotion through various media outlets; Participates in emergency response activities as needed or as directed; Assists in Department programs and projects including but not limited to reaccreditation efforts, environmental health support and emergency preparedness; Performs related work as directed. Ability to learn department and citywide procedures and standard policies; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with health department and other city department employees, supervisory personnel and the public; Ability to work in enclosed spaces and outdoors in all types of weather, etc. as required by position; Ability to effectively communicate with others, both orally and in writing; Strong communication skills; Ability to work independently and part of a team; Comfortable in diverse community settings; Compassionate, dependable and culturally sensitive. Minimum Qualifications Minimum of high school graduation or possession of a G.E.D. or equivalent (Will be verified for finalists); and Six (6) months of experience in public health, health sciences or other closely related area; and Basic computer skills (data entry, email, google doc); and A valid driver's license (Will be verified for finalists). Preferred Qualifications Graduation from a college or university of recognized standing with an Associate's Degree public health, health sciences or closely related field.
