Pawtucket Shelter Monitor (Per-Diem Shift Coverage)

Job Description

OpenDoors is looking for shelter monitors to assist with pier diem shift coverage at its Pawtucket shelter (positions are also available for our Woonsocket shelter. If you are not able to work in Pawtucket but are interested in Woonsocket, please apply for that position) . Initially, we are only looking for people to cover per diem work called on to cover various open shifts, with shifting schedule every week. There is the potential for permanent shifts in the future. Monitors provide continuous monitoring and oversight of the shelter or warming/cooling center, assisting with providing a safe and supportive environment for unhoused individuals. The Monitor ensures safe and good order of operations. Responsibilities and rules are enforced and violating incidents are reported promptly. The Monitor must be prepared to respond to crisis situations, such as situations involving intoxicated and unruly residents. Daily responsibilities include conducting intakes, security and safety checks, and helping coordinate catered meals. In addition, the Monitor follows the shift work plan by performing the routine custodial work assigned to that shift, which may include the following items: laundry tasks, serving meals, cleaning and upkeep. Lastly, this position also requires completion of clerical duties related to direct service including but not limited to: daily census, food supplies and other inventories, room checks, and log supply distribution. Responsibilities Assist with client intakes, including searches and information collection. Communicates with colleagues, including over email about shelter updates Monitors and inspects shelter, including bed checks. Enters case notes and log in online tracking system every shift. Enforces shelter rules, including drug and medicine policies, drug screening, and attendance. Responds to crisis, documentation of incident reports, and discusses incidents with Program Manager. Provides ongoing support and engagement with residents as much as possible. Qualifications Bilingual preferred. Experience working with the homeless population is preferred Experience providing security or residential supervision is preferred Experience with peer recovery coach training is preferred For late night hours, bus transportation will not always be possible, so personal transportation from work is necessary in those cases. Basic computer literacy, including email and google. OpenDoors is an agency dedicated to providing services to people with criminal records. Individuals with previous criminal records will be given priority in hiring.
Hours:
This is initially a per-diem only opportunity during 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift, with the potential for first, second, and third shifts, part-time and full-time in the future.
