Full Job Description Summary:
Candidate must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and have successfully completed a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) training program or certification. Additionally, the candidate must have passed the dental X-ray (radiation safety) examination and hold a current Registered Dental Assistant license issued by the Dental Board of California. Minimum of one year of office, management experience is required with computerized data system experience. Preference given to candidates with at least one year of dental assisting experience in the clinical setting. New graduate applicants considered in exceptional circumstances. Must have a CPR (BLS Provider) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross. Certification may be obtained prior to orientation. Candidate must have the ability to work with various types of patients from the young to the elderly. Use of digital radiographs and electronic dental record keeping. Proper phone etiquette and ability to use various Microsoft Office programs. The Dental Receptionist provides front desk customer relation services to RSBCIHI patients and staff, and completes clerical duties to facilitate the daily operation of the Dental Department. On occasion, the receptionist may be called on to assist with patient care, thus the receptionist should also maintain RDA licensure. The incumbent must be professional, detail-oriented, possess exceptional interpersonal skills,, and be able to handle a fast-paced environment. Must be able to work with the Indian community and be sensitive to the Indian culture and its needs.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
The Dental Assistant/Registered Dental Assistant is responsible for the following: Primary responsibility is chair side assistance to Dentist. Provides comfort to and meeting the needs of the patient. Continual analysis of the working situation and patient flow is maintained throughout the day to ensure efficient patient care. Maintains appropriate information in patient charts for the back office. Ensures that all patient records are maintained in confidential manner. Coordinating appointments and laboratory schedules to ensure timely delivery of cases. Presents oral hygiene instructions to patients. Individual bagging, dating and sterilization of instruments. Maintains log book of sterilization procedures and testing. Maintains and documents maintenance of all equipment. Maintaining neat, stocked, and orderly operatories and dental areas. Operates dental radiographic equipment. Able to take, process, mount and file films. Mouth-mirror inspection of the oral cavity, to include charting of obvious lesions, existing restorations, and missing teeth. Provides coverage for Dental Receptionist as may be required, as well as other duties as may be required to effectively and efficiently carry out the daily operation of the dental program, and provide quality care to patients. This position requires working evenings and weekends as needed. Other duties as assigned. Dries root canals with absorbent points. Tests pulp vitality. Replaces the liners and bases on sound dentin. Removes cement excess from supragingival surfaces of teeth. Sizes stainless steel crowns. Fabricates temporary crowns. Coronal polishing (upon completion of State Board approval course). Takes impressions for diagnostic and opposing models. Pour up models and trim. Applies non-caustic topical agents. Assists in administration of nitrous oxide under instructions, supervision of, and after initiation of procedure by dentist. Molds, wedges, and removes matrices. Removes sutures. Applies topical fluoride after scaling and polishing by dentist or dental hygienist Replaces and removes rubber dams. Providing coverage for Dental Receptionist as may be required, as well as other duties as may be required to effectively and efficiently carry out the daily operation of the dental program, and provide quality care to patients.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent and have successfully completed a Registered Dental Assistant training program or certification. Additionally, the candidate must have passed the radiation examination required by the California Dental Board.
Experience:
Preference given to candidates with at least 1 year of dental assisting experience in the clinical setting. New graduate applicants considered in exceptional circumstances.
License:
Registered Dental Assistant License issued by the California Dental Board.
Certification:
CPR (BLS Provider) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross. Certification may be obtained prior to orientation.
Knowledge of:
Use of digital radiographs and electronic dental record keeping. Proper phone etiquette and ability to use various Microsoft Office programs.
Skill:
Recommend typing speed 30 wpm and be willing to work with computerized data system. Use of digital radiographs and electronic dental record keeping. Familiarization with proper infection control and sterilization processes. Kind and personable chairside manner with patients. Proper phone etiquette and ability to use various Microsoft Office programs.
Ability to:
Work with various types of patients from the young to the elderly. Must be able to work with the Indian Community, and be sensitive to the Indian culture and its needs.
Physical Demands:
This job may require prolonged sitting, moderate standing, bending and walking. May be required to work late hours to accommodate patients' needs.
Appointment Type:
Full-Time, Non-Exempt Schedule:
Monday-Wednesday 8:00am-5:00pm, Thursday 8:00am-7:00pm, Friday 8:00am-2:00pm
Compensation:
$22.00•25.00 per hour ($45,760•52,000 annually, depending on experience and internal equity)
Clinic Location:
San Manuel Indian Health Clinic (11980 Mt. Vernon Ave. Grand Terrance Ca, 92313), Travel required to other other RSBCIHI locations as needed.
Pay:
$22.00•$25.00 per hour
