Responsibilities Perform comprehensive dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup. Conduct patient assessments by taking vital signs, medical histories, and dental radiographs (X-rays) using digital imaging equipment. Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, preventive care, and treatment options tailored to individual needs. Assist the dentist during procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to ensure smooth workflow and patient comfort. Maintain accurate and detailed medical and dental records within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Open Dental, ensuring HIPAA compliance at all times. Monitor infection prevention protocols by practicing aseptic techniques, sterilizing dental instruments, and managing infection control procedures diligently. Review documentation for accuracy, update medical coding as necessary, and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations including HIPAA. Qualifications Valid state licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist with current certification to perform dental hygiene procedures. Proven experience working in general dentistry or pediatric dentistry environments; previous dental office experience preferred. Proficiency with dental software systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for managing patient records and scheduling. Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and dental equipment operation. Excellent communication skills with the ability to educate patients effectively about dental care and foster a positive experience. Demonstrated understanding of healthcare infection prevention and control standards, including aseptic technique and sterilization processes.
