Dental Technician - Anterior Porcelain, Stain & Finish

Job Description

Overview We are seeking a skilled Dental Technician specializing in anterior porcelain layering, staining, and finishing to join our dental laboratory. This role is responsible for producing highly esthetic anterior and posterio restorations — including crowns, veneers, and bridges — that meet exacting standards for shade, contour, texture, and surface characterization. The ideal candidate combines strong technical porcelain-building skills with an artistic eye for natural tooth anatomy and color. Responsibilities Build and layer porcelain on anterior and posterior restorations (crowns, veneers, bridges) to match natural dentition in shape, translucency, and shade Apply internal and external staining and characterization (mamelons, craze lines, incisal effects, hypocalcification, etc.) to achieve lifelike, case-specific results Perform final contouring, texturing, glazing, and polishing of restorations Interpret shade guides, photographs, and doctor prescriptions/Rx instructions to determine esthetic requirements Collaborate with doctors and lab team on shade matching, including in-office shade appointments when needed Perform quality control checks on restorations prior to shipping, ensuring fit, occlusion, and esthetics meet lab standards Maintain and calibrate porcelain furnaces and finishing equipment Keep accurate case records and follow case tracking/turnaround procedures Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation in compliance with lab protocols
Required Qualifications:
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in anterior porcelain layering, staining, and finishing (or equivalent training/certification) Strong understanding of dental anatomy, occlusion, and esthetic principles Proficiency with porcelain systems (e.g., layered feldspathic, pressed ceramics) and associated furnaces Skilled in hand-finishing techniques, including diamond and rubber wheel polishing Ability to read and interpret doctor Rx forms and shade documentation Strong attention to detail and consistency across cases Ability to manage multiple cases and meet production deadlines
Preferred Qualifications:
Certified Dental Technician (CDT) certification, especially in Ceramics Experience with digital shade-matching tools or photography for shade communication Familiarity with CAD/CAM-milled substructures and layering over zirconia or lithium disilicate copings Prior experience in a high-volume or boutique esthetic-focused lab
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit for extended periods while performing detailed handwork Fine motor skill precision under magnification (loupes/microscope) Comfortable working near open-flame/torch equipment and porcelain furnaces
