Prepares, seasons, and cooks' food for hospital patients, ISB residents, Senior Living neighbors, outreach programs, employees, and visitors. Assists with food preparation, service, sanitation, and kitchen support duties according to diet therapy and facility standards.
Essential Job Functions:
Overall Prepping and Cooking (70-80%): Review menus and work orders to determine quantities and types of food needed Prepare, season, and cook food; assist with desserts and food prep Set up steam tables and serving lines Ensure trays meet standards for accuracy, temperature, and appearance Coordinate cooking schedules to meet service times Measure and mix ingredients according to recipes Operate kitchen equipment (slicers, mixers, grinders, blenders, etc.) Ensure food quality, freshness, taste, and appearance standards are met Serve food to patients, residents, staff, and visitors per diet orders Assist with grocery receiving and storage Maintain salad bar and other service items as needed Report equipment or food supply issues to supervisor Perform additional duties as assigned Sanitation (10-20%): Maintain sanitary conditions throughout food handling and preparation Clean kitchen, utensils, and equipment Operate dishwasher to maintain clean dishes and utensils Dispose of trash and kitchen waste properly Assist with maintenance of kitchen equipment and supplies Professional Development (10%): Maintain records, reports, and documentation as required Participate in in-service training and educational programs Attend meetings as required May handle payment transactions from staff and visitors
Position Specifications Education/Experience:
High School Diploma preferred but not required Some cooking experience recommended ServSafe certification preferred

English required during working hours

Scheduled hours including weekends and holidays
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions Ability to solve routine problems in structured environments

Must be friendly, professional, and customer-service oriented
Working Conditions:
Frequent interruptions Exposure to heat, steam, wet environments, and odors Risk of cuts, burns, and possible chemical exposure Hot and humid kitchen environments
Physical Demands:
Lift/carry up to 50 lbs occasionally Prolonged standing and walking Frequent bending, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and crouching This position is an on‑site role and is not eligible for remote or telecommuting work.
