Responsibilities Prepare and cook meals in accordance with established menus, dietary guidelines, and residents' specific nutritional requirements. Plan menus that incorporate balanced nutrition, variety, and appealing presentation, considering special dietary restrictions. Ensure all food handling, storage, and preparation practices comply with food safety standards and sanitation regulations. Assist in managing inventory levels, ordering supplies, and maintaining proper stock control to minimize waste. Collaborate with the dietary department to accommodate residents' preferences and special diets effectively. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area, adhering to health and safety protocols at all times. Serve meals efficiently while providing courteous service to residents, ensuring a positive dining experience. Experience Proven experience working in dietary departments or food service environments, preferably within long-term care or healthcare settings. Strong background in food preparation, cooking techniques, and menu planning with an emphasis on nutritious meal creation. Experience with food handling procedures, sanitation practices, and food safety regulations. Familiarity with catering or fine dining standards is advantageous for creating visually appealing meals. Skills in knife handling, meal preparation, and culinary techniques gained through restaurant or food industry experience. Previous roles involving food service or kitchen operations that demonstrate reliability and attention to detail. Knowledge of dietary aide responsibilities and experience working alongside healthcare teams to meet residents' nutritional needs. SPECIAL DEMANDS
Must have a genuine interest in geriatric work, willingness to work for best interests of institution. Ability to supervise and work cooperatively with others. Considerable judgment involved in setting up meals, seasoning food, estimating food requirements, utilizing leftovers, and presenting food in attractive and palatable manner. Works under general supervision. Follows standard recipes and menus but makes frequent independent decisions relative to type of meal to be served and method of preparation.
