Director of Nursing Responsibilities:
Integrate the mission and values of SND USA in all services. Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positivity. The Director of Nursing is responsible for the overall efficient, effective planning and operations of healthcare services in accordance with current federal, state, and local regulations. Implements processes and operations ensuring the following are maintained: quality of life for Sisters; completion of assessments for vital signs, mental status and cognitive skills; administration of medications; development and implementation of treatment plans in collaboration with other health care professionals as appropriate; physiological, psychological, and spiritual needs identified and addressed in a timely manner; Sisters are invited to engage in decisions about their care. The DON will adopt and enforce rules and regulations concerning patients'/residents' health and safety as well as their personal, civil and property rights. Acts as an advocate for the Sisters. Leads, develops, and oversees the healthcare staff by setting clear expectations, managing performance, and fostering a collaborative, patient-centered team environment to ensure high-quality care delivery and operational excellence. Manage staff schedule, ensuring all shifts are filled and staff receive schedule well in advance of each schedule period. Responsible for finding coverage in the event of call-offs, time off needs, etc. Leads educational initiatives for staff and Sisters; provides monthly in-service trainings for healthcare staff; promotes wellness for Sisters on a regular basis providing health education 4-6 times annually on topics such as nutrition, physical activity, medication safety, psychosocial well-being, other common health concerns (i.e., falls, incontinence, changing sleep patterns, prevention, etc.). Accompany Sisters to healthcare appointments and/or schedules transport as needed; is present at hospital/medical facility for major surgeries or other significant procedures. The DON will develop, implement, and maintain consistent application of personnel policies of SND USA. Prepare annual budget with financial accountability, monitors, and manage expenses. Collaborate with Facilities and Food Services related to Sisters' healthcare needs. Coordinate with Human Resources related to employee relations and developments (i.e. hiring/onboarding new staff; performance; performance review process, job description development, etc.). Maintain on-going communication and meet regularly with Provincial Councilor and House Coordinator. Maintain accurate and detailed healthcare records for Sisters in the Thousand Oaks region. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). 10+ years nursing experience; 5+ years experience in a long-term care environment. Registered Nurse with a current and valid California nursing license. Strong knowledge of laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to long-term care facilities. Outstanding leadership skills; ability to mentor staff in a motivating and positive manner. Demonstrates personal qualities of compassion, patience, and stress management. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to communicate effectively with people of all backgrounds and situations (i.e., Sisters, healthcare staff, SND leadership, physicians, and other medical professionals, etc.). Strong computer skills (i.e., MS Office). Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities. The Director of Nursing will have a regular set schedule in the health care unit and must be available 24/7 for emergency circumstances A valid driver's license is required, and the Director must be willing and able to drive Sisters to appointments, etc. If you want to join a team that appreciates you and your hard work, look no further than Sisters of Notre Dame, USA!
