Lead Nursing Excellence as the Next Director of Nursing in Long Term Care | Urbana, Illinois The Position The Director of Nursing (DON) will provide strategic and operational nursing leadership for a boutique long term organization in Urbana, Illinois. This leader will oversee clinical operations while advancing a culture of dignity, quality, accountability, and person-directed care.
The DON will lead daily nursing operations and partner with an Assistant Director of Nursing, Nurse Manager, social services, and interdisciplinary care teams to ensure exceptional resident care, strong clinical outcomes, and a positive experience for residents and families.
Champion quality improvement and QAPI initiatives that strengthen clinical outcomes, enhance resident safety, and promote continuous improvement. The DON will monitor key quality indicators and use data-driven strategies to identify opportunities and implement sustainable improvements.
This leader will foster a culture of accountability, coaching, shared leadership, and professional development across the nursing team. The DON will build trust, develop staff, establish clear expectations, and empower team members to deliver consistently high standards of care.
Oversee staffing, scheduling, resource allocation, and clinical priorities while supporting innovative approaches to care delivery. The DON will work collaboratively with organizational leaders and interdisciplinary partners to strengthen recruitment, retention, and workforce engagement.
Ensure ongoing regulatory compliance and survey readiness while maintaining clinical standards that extend beyond minimum requirements. The DON will provide leadership around CMS regulations, clinical policies, documentation, and quality initiatives.
The ideal candidate will be a compassionate and collaborative RN leader with long-term care or post-acute experience who can combine strong clinical leadership with accountability, innovation, and relationship-building. Requirements BSN is required; MSN is preferred. Active IL RN license and/or willingness to apply is required. A minimum of two years of professional nursing experience within a long-term care or post-acute setting is required. A minimum of one year of nursing leadership is required.
