Director of Nursing:

Must be licensed and working currently as an RN with a minimum of 5 years experience and 1 year of supervising and/or administration in a licensed health care facility to supervise our staff of nurses, medical professionals, and unlicensed assistive personnel.

SUMMARY:

Oversee and provides health services and monitoring to all clients. Educates and empowers staff to emulate the concepts of Adult Medical Day Care. Delegates specific nursing tasks to the Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses and Client Attendants. Develops and implements nursing policies and procedures.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Consistently maintain a kind and respectful attitude towards clients, clients' families and guests. Sensitive to the special needs of the seniors and demonstrates a genuine, caring attitude.
Assists the Administrator in interviews, hires, orientates, supervises, schedules and provides continuous in service programs for the staff. Sets, maintains, communicates and holds self and staff accountable for high standards of performance.
Initial assessment of all clients to determine the client's level of care and to determine if the clients need general or health care services and initiate a Care Plan on the first day of Admission.
Completes a Comprehensive Assessment and full Care Plan within 14 days of the client's admission.
Completes 5 days Nursing Assessment within the first five days of the clients attendance.
Review and/or revision will be documented in the client's record.
Review care plans and nursing assessments with the physician, as necessary, quarterly or when a clients condition changes.
Maintain accuracy of all medical charts, identifying all components needed in each chart by completing comprehensive chart audits.
Maintain nursing and client supplies and equipment needed to optimize the Nursing Office functions.
Observe facility environment, meals, activities, outings, transportation and other various components of day care.
Assist Administrator in identifying potential hazards, safety conditions and employee job tasks to assure that the facility is functioning in the optimal level.
Develop and maintain health care monitoring for all clients on a regular basis.
Is on call during operational hours, seven days per week. The Director of Nursing Services can delegate this duty to another RN.
Maintain a regular nursing schedule to accommodate the needs and acuity of our clients.
Attend seminars, presentations, meetings, trips and outings as requested from the Administrator/Owners.
Monitors the condition of the clients on a periodic basis and as needed.
Assesses client's need for referral to a physician or community agency as appropriate. Makes the appropriate referral.
Serves as a health educator for clients and staff.
Teaches and/or reviews procedures with medication and treatment delegation with Licensed Practical Nurses.
Performs a review of medication on each client, coordinating with the Pharmacy Consultant. Monitors drug storage and prepare unused medication for destruction or to be returned to the pharmacy if appropriate.
Provides or delegates wellness care.
Works with the Administrator to develop Infection Prevention and Control Policies and Procedures.
Shifts and job responsibilities may be subject to flexible schedules to accommodate the needs of the facility/clients on an as needed basis. This includes the rotational coverage of weekends, holidays and also snow days where the clients care needs will dictate staff schedule and duties.
Maintain and protect the confidentiality of clients information at all times.
Participates in ongoing process of Quality Improvement to evaluate and improve upon services and standards.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTIES

Directly supervises nursing staff employees and client attendants. Responsibilities include; assistance in hiring and orienting staff, planning, assigning and directing work, and providing continuous in-services for all employees.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a current valid registered nursing license in the State of New Jersey. Two to three years geriatric, long-term or home care nursing experience preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodical, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Ability to effectively present information, and respond to questions from groups of mangers, clients, clients' families, regulatory agencies, and the general public.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exits. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION

Current New Jersey Registered Professional Nursing License.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILTIES

Must interact with ill, disabled, cognitively impaired and hostile clients, client's families, other employees and regulatory agencies. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to delegate or pass medication and do treatments. The employee must be able to handle or feel small objects while doing medications or treatments. The employee must lift, push, and/or move 50 pounds while assisting with client care. During client care, medication, and/or treatment administration, he/she must stoop, reach, turn, and bend at times. The employee is occasionally expected to detect odors in order to ensure client safety, and in the assessment of certain symptoms. Good observation skills are necessary for this position.
