Job Description

Essential Functions
  • Ensures that the philosophy and objectives of the Nursing Department are in compliance with the Mission of the facility.
  • Develops standards of nursing practice for all levels of nursing personnel.
  • Develops and keeps current policy and procedure manuals for all nursing personnel.
  • Critics and updates job descriptions for all nursing personnel.
  • Recommends to administration any changes in staffing levels to coordinate with resident care demands and keeps a written staffing plan.
  • Recruits, selects, assigns all professional nursing staff and coordinates their orientation.
  • Oversees disciplinary acti on to all Nursing Staff. including termination of any Nursing employees.
  • Monitors attendance of in-service hours of nursing personnel.
  • Implements effective mechanisms for the supervision and performance appraisal of nursing personnel.
  • Oversees daily operations of the MDS Department and Medicare PPS, and coordinates the bi-annual and quarterly PRI's.
  • Participates in the following nursing home committees:
  • Quality Assurance
  • Safety
  • Exposure Control
  • Admissions
  • Medical Staff
  • Ethics
  • Dept. Head Meetings
  • Monitors and evaluates the quality and appropriateness of nursing care.
  • Prepares the annual department budget.
  • Provides periodic reports to administration as required.
  • Participates in professional activities within the community.
  • Participates in community activities.
  • Performs related duties as directed by the Administrator
  • Performs related duties as directed by the Administrator Education Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor's Degree Masters Degree preferred Experience Requirements
  • Minimum of 6 years of progressive experience, at least 4 years of which must be in an administrative capacity in the field of gerontological nursing License Requirements
  • Currently licensed to practice as a registered professional nurse in New York
