BASIC PURPOSE
The Assistant Director of the Nursing Program assists the Director in the leadership and management of the Nursing Program. The Assistant Director has primary responsibilities in the areas of nursing admissions processes, clinical compliance and the Nursing Skills and Simulation Suite. •This position requires the PA Child Abuse, PA State Police, and FBI Fingerprinting clearances to be completed prior to the first day of employment. •This position has been approved for a flexible work option arrangement. Flexible work options can be ended at any time by the College, Cabinet, and/or supervisors based on employee performance and/or as institutional needs change.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Facilitate all aspects of the Nursing Program Admissions process, including recruitment, reviewing student eligibility for admission and collaborating with academic advisors through the process. Assist with orientation, student registration, and the student handbook. Resolve student, faculty and staff concerns. Facilitate communication between and among concerned parties to resolve conflicts expeditiously. Assist the Director in preparing accurate, current records and reports as required by the College and approval/accrediting organizations. Provide oversight for Simulation Lab, including support of Simulation Lab faculty. Coordinate scheduling with clinical agencies. Create semester schedule of all clinical site visits, clinical activities, simulation, and lab activities with Nursing Coordinator and sim lab faculty. Perform compliance audits for students and faculty to meet clinical site contract requirements. Escalate issues and provide reports regarding concerns/violations of compliance requirements. Act as a liaison between clinical agencies, faculty, staff, students and program stakeholders. Determine and coordinate acquisition, upgrading, warranties, and maintenance of equipment. Determining the need for software, equipment, medical and laboratory supplies and ordering as necessary. Oversee the ordering and distribution of individual student laboratory supplies. In collaboration with course faculty, support health promotion events. Represent the Nursing Program at recruitment and community events. Organize the Nursing Pinning Ceremony, including planning the Ceremony with students, ordering supplies, and working with Marketing and Communications regarding event. Assist with orientation for new faculty. Maintain contact with alumni after graduation to promote adherence to
NCLEX-RN
® test preparation plan per established guidelines. Leads Nursing Program operations in the absence of the Director Perform other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Bachelor's degree in Nursing required; Master's degree in Nursing preferred. Current registration as a Professional Nurse in good standing with the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing. At least 3 years' experience in nursing practice required. At least 3 years' professional experience in one or more of the following areas: training, staff development, simulation lab, nursing education, and supervisory experience. Experience with nursing specialized accreditation and development of accreditation documents preferred Demonstrated communication and relationship-building skills. Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to comprehensive community college philosophy Knowledge of contemporary educational practices and standards including, but not limited to, the use of alternative educational delivery systems, instructional techniques, and distance learning modalities. Commitment to the incorporation of information literacy, technology, writing, and diversity in the curriculum.
