Job Summary The Director of Nursing is a professional registered nurse with 24 (twenty-four) hour responsibility for assigned behavioral health departments within established standards to achieve the mission and vision of the organization. The position is responsible for overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the unit/departments and executes supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. The Director of Nursing provides leadership and mentorship in the development of leaders and staff. The position is responsible for monitoring and evaluating quality, patient satisfaction and employee satisfaction outcomes to implement strategies for improvement. The Director of Nursing is a change agent and will establish strong collaborative relationships with physicians. Responsible for overall administrative, financial, and clinical activities of assigned departments. Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks Executes strategic planning, leads mentoring/coaching and identifying department succession strategy. Oversight of physician relationships and engagement. Collaborates with marketing and nursing leadership in marketing, community outreach, and visibility. Development and oversight of quality initiatives, staffing and productivity guidelines, and customer service goals. Provides clinical support and assist with daily operations. Analyzes and monitors compliance with accrediting and regulatory agency standards. Plans and organizes orientation and in-service training for staff members and participates in guidance and educational programs. Develops, implements, and evaluates policies, standards and programs that supports unit/departments. Delegate duties to other personnel commensurate with their education proficiency and job description, as needed.

Financial Activities:

Ensure segregation of duties, timely and accurate monthly reconciliation of statements of account; accurate preparation of annual budget; monitoring of budget to assure appropriate spending. Uses forecasted budget to guide expenditure decisions. Initiates activities to enhance revenues and support cost reduction and containment activities. Demonstrates empathy, intentionally works to put others at ease. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Required Education/Experience Minimum of (5) five years of psychiatric clinical nursing experience of which 2 years must have been in management capacity. Master's degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing required. Psychiatric certification and/or related field, or willingness to obtain within (2) two years of hire preferred. Required Licenses/ Certification Current RN license or current license deemed acceptable by the applicable State Board of Nursing. Certification in clinical specialty or nursing administration preferred. Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies Requires strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
