City of South Houston EMS is seeking a motivated and compassionate EMT-Basic to provide emergency medical care, patient assessment, and transportation services to the community. The EMT-Basic will respond to emergency and non-emergency calls, assist higher-level medical personnel, and provide quality patient care in accordance with department protocols, state regulations, and medical direction. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Respond promptly and safely to emergency and non-emergency calls. Assess patient conditions and provide Basic Life Support (BLS) care. Assist Paramedics and Advanced EMTs with patient treatment and transport. Perform CPR, airway management, bleeding control, splinting, oxygen administration, and other approved BLS procedures. Safely operate ambulances and emergency vehicles when assigned. Complete accurate patient care reports and required documentation. Maintain cleanliness, organization, and readiness of EMS units and equipment. Restock medical supplies and ensure equipment is functioning properly. Communicate effectively with patients, family members, hospitals, dispatchers, and emergency personnel. Participate in department training, continuing education, drills, and meetings. Follow all department policies, safety procedures, and infection control standards. Demonstrate professionalism, compassion, and excellent customer service at all times. Qualifications Current EMT-Basic Certification with the Texas Department of State Health Services ((TDSHS) Current National Registry Certification (preferred not necessary) Must possess current CPR/BLS Certification Valid Texas Driver License Must possess NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 certifications Must successfully pass an initial aptitude test Must have a Highschool Diploma or Equivalent Physical Requirements Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds Ability to lift, move, and carry patients and medical equipment Ability to perform CPR and emergency procedures for extended periods Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work in confined spaces Ability to work in varying weather and environmental conditions Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in high-stress environments Strong communication, teamwork, and decision-making skills Work Environment Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments, including emergency scenes, residences, roadways, industrial areas, and healthcare facilities Employees may be exposed to hazardous situations, infectious diseases, bloodborne pathogens, bodily fluids, and traumatic incidents Requires the ability to function effectively in high-stress and fast-paced emergency situations Employees may work rotating shifts, extended hours, nights, weekends, holidays, mandatory overtime, and on call assignments Work may involve operating emergency vehicles in heavy traffic and hazardous driving conditions Frequent physical activity and rapid response to emergencies are required throughout assigned shifts Employees are expected to maintain readiness, professionalism, and composure during emergency operations Teamwork, communication, and adherence to department policies and safety standards are essential at all times.
