Job Description

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION
An employee in this position provides medical care and transport services to the public under emergency and non-emergency conditions. Employees work on an assigned 24 hour shift.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Provides patient care in a high stress/risk environment at the basic life support and advanced life support level. Transports and handles patients in a safe and legal manner in accordance with the State of Texas, City of Paris and Paris EMS department standards. Drives an ambulance in accordance with State of Texas and departmental standards and in a constant safe, efficient manner. Completes all required reports or records as directed and to the standards required by the department and State of Texas. Complies with City of Paris and Paris EMS Standard Operating Guidelines. Attends continuing education seminars as scheduled and attends inservice education classes to enhance performance and understanding of this position. Provides educational and/or informative communication to the general public when designated or upon his own initiative. Such communications shall include public training, education concerning the department, etc. and may be public speaking, news media, training courses, etc. Participates in the EMS Wellness/Fitness program in order to maintain a high degree of strength, flexibility and conditioning.
Physical Demands include:
Standing for long periods, Sitting, Walking continually, Lifting objects/patients, Carrying objects/patients, Pushing/pulling objects, Reaching for items/objects, Handling equipment/items/tools, Fine dexterity required for patient care, Kneeling, Crouching, Crawling, Bending, Twisting, Climbing, Balancing, Good Vision, Good Hearing, Talking, Foot Controls.
Qualifications:
Must have a High School diploma or GED equivalency. Must have certification by the Texas Department of Health as an Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic. Must maintain certifications in BCLS, NIMS, ITLS, ACLS, PALS and State Approved Defensive Driving. Must be able to perform all essential job functions.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of a valid drivers license and an acceptable driving record.
