POSITION SUMMARY

The Behavior Health Therapist provides clinical and therapeutic services to children and adolescents residing at Safely Home, Inc. The position is responsible for assessing client needs, developing and implementing Individual Service Plans (ISPs), providing individual, group, and family therapy, supporting crisis intervention, and coordinating treatment services with families, referring agencies, and members of the interdisciplinary team. The Behavioral Health Therapist maintains consistent therapeutic contact with clients, provides clinical guidance to residential staff, participates in treatment planning and case conferences, and supports discharge and post-placement planning. This position works closely with the clinical department and other members of the treatment team to promote client stability, progress, permanency, and continuity of care.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Clinical Services & Treatment Planning

• Develop, implement, monitor, and update Individual Service Plans (ISPs) in collaboration with clients, families, custodians/referring agencies, and members of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
• Provide individual, group, and family therapy based on each client's identified treatment needs.
• Establish and maintain appropriate therapeutic relationships with clients and their families.
• Provide trauma-informed, client-centered therapeutic interventions that support emotional, behavioral, and psychological well-being.
• Maintain required direct therapeutic contact with assigned clients, including a minimum of eight hours per week of direct client contact, as applicable.
• Monitor client progress toward treatment goals and recommend modifications to treatment interventions when appropriate. Crisis Intervention & Clinical Support
• Provide clinical intervention and support during client crises.
• Utilize approved crisis prevention, de-escalation, and therapeutic intervention techniques.
• Provide clinical guidance and recommendations to residential staff regarding client behaviors, treatment needs, and appropriate interventions.
• Collaborate with the treatment team to address changes in client functioning, safety concerns, behavioral concerns, or other clinical needs.
• Support staff in maintaining a therapeutic and trauma-informed residential environment. Case Management & Service Coordination
• Coordinate clinical services among members of the interdisciplinary treatment team to promote continuity of care and positive treatment outcomes.
• Lead and participate in case conferences and present relevant information regarding client progress, treatment goals, barriers, and recommendations.
• Participate in weekly unit and treatment team meetings as required.
• Maintain regular communication with families, custodians, referring agencies, healthcare providers, and other individuals involved in the client's care.
• Coordinate and support client visitation as appropriate, including communication with involved parties.
• Advocate for services and resources necessary to support the client's treatment and permanency goals. Intake, Discharge & Post-Placement Planning
• Participate in the clinical aspects of the admission and intake process as assigned.
• Review available clinical, behavioral, social, and treatment information to assist in identifying client needs upon admission.
• Develop, coordinate, and maintain client discharge plans in collaboration with the client, family, custodian/referring agency, treatment team, and other involved service providers.
• Begin discharge planning upon admission and update discharge plans throughout the client's placement to reflect progress, barriers, identified needs, recommended services, placement plans, and continuity-of-care needs.
• Assist clients and families with preparation for transitions, discharge, and placement changes.
• Collaborate with referring agencies, custodians, families, community providers, and the treatment team to ensure appropriate services and supports are identified prior to discharge.
• Complete and maintain required client information related to admission, treatment, discharge planning, and discharge in the Ohio Residential Treatment Information System (RTIS), within applicable agency and regulatory timeframes.
• Ensure RTIS information within the scope of the Behavioral Health Therapist's responsibilities is accurate, current, and consistent with the client record and treatment/discharge planning documentation.
• Support continuity of care by communicating relevant treatment needs, recommendations, follow-up services, and other necessary information to appropriate providers and involved parties.
• Advocate for appropriate permanency planning and services that support the client's long-term stability and success. Documentation & Compliance
• Complete required clinical documentation accurately and within established agency and regulatory timeframes.
• Maintain documentation related to therapy sessions, treatment plans, case conferences, progress, treatment summaries, and other required clinical services.
• Ensure client records accurately reflect services provided, client progress, treatment interventions, and significant clinical developments.
• Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, agency policy, and applicable state and federal requirements.
• Participate in clinical record reviews, quality improvement activities, and compliance efforts as required.
• Complete required RTIS documentation and updates related to assigned clients, including applicable treatment and discharge information, and address required corrections or updates in a timely manner. Team Collaboration & Development
• Work collaboratively with residential, clinical, educational, medical, and administrative staff to ensure coordinated client care.
• Provide clinical input and guidance to members of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
• Assist with training and professional development of treatment team members when appropriate.
• Participate in agency meetings, case consultations, trainings, workshops, and other required professional development activities.
• Maintain professional boundaries and ethical standards in all interactions with clients, families, staff, and community partners. Other Duties
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Clinical & Residential Services or designee.
• Support the overall mission, philosophy, policies, and treatment practices of Safely Home, Inc.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related behavioral health field from an accredited institution.
• Appropriate professional licensure or credentialing as required for the clinical services provided.
• LISW, LPCC-S, MFT-S, or other applicable behavioral health licensure/credentialing as required by the agency and scope of practice.
• Experience providing behavioral health or therapeutic services to children and adolescents preferred.
• Experience working in a residential treatment, behavioral health, child welfare, or similar clinical setting preferred.
• Knowledge of treatment planning, clinical documentation, crisis intervention, and behavioral health practices.
• Strong clinical judgment, communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must successfully complete required BCI/FBI background checks and physical examination.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and meet agency driving requirements.
• Must maintain required crisis intervention certification, such as CPI.
• Must maintain all professional licenses, credentials, certifications, and continuing education requirements applicable to the position.
• This is a 12-month, full-time, on-site position.
• Must be able to work flexible hours based on client and program needs.

PHYSICAL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

• Must be able to walk, stand, bend, and kneel throughout the workday.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and perform approved CPI physical interventions when required.
• Work is primarily conducted within a youth residential treatment facility, including client living areas, clinical spaces, activity areas, and administrative offices.
• Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of equipment weighing up to 25 pounds may be required.
• Potential exposure to blood and bodily fluids may occur in the performance of job duties.

EXPECTED HOURS

• Typical work hours are 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
• Hours may vary based on client, clinical, and program needs.
• Some evening, weekend, or alternative shift hours may be required.
• Schedule flexibility is required to accommodate therapy sessions, family involvement, crises, meetings, and other clinical responsibilities.

TRAVEL Local travel may be required for client-related appointments, meetings, court or agency involvement, family or placement-related activities, and other approved agency business. Transportation of clients may be required in accordance with agency policy.
